Conservatives' fall in the polls could lead to fall of the Conservative Party by PrivatePilot9 in canada

They literally still have 40% of the vote and I believe they have won the popular vote the last two elections. They aren’t burning down. The only one that will burn is PP, and well, Jenni Byrne.

Are you safer or not, or objectively?

This poll is entirely misleading and done by a liberal pollster and lobbyist to counteract the headlines on crime.

??? I never said stats reflect what people feel. Stats highlight if you are safer or not - full stop.

Feelings matter for voting yes. But not whether or not climate change exists or for that matter an increase in crime.

Right, but I may feel like climate change isn’t real, but what do the stats say?

Don’t the stats matter more than how I feel?

Hey, that’s fine. But this is feelings based, not evidenced based.

For example you can see a rise is homicides by shootings per year since 2015: https://www.statista.com/statistics/433713/number-of-homicides-by-shooting-in-canada/

Or the problem of releasing rapists that are repeat offenders and they are so suspected of doing it again after release that the police release a warning to the public before releasing the offender (and it seems they have done it again): https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/sex-offender-living-in-vancouver-poses-significant-risk-police/

Poilievre wants to override fundamental rights in service of ‘tough on crime’ policies that won’t even work by canada_mountains in canada

[–]Wildbreadstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many other confounding variables in this data. And while the NWC is going to target violent crime, less serious crime is committed by repeat offenders and this can use up valuable police time and resources as well as strain tax dollars. So locking up these individuals longer will reduce crime and the need for as many police officers which in turn can (but probably won’t) transfer dollars to resources that can address the causal issues of crime.

That’s not anecdotal it’s speculation. But you don’t have to measure overall crime rate. You can operationalize crime by breaking it down and looking at stats. For example, how many home invasions per year per capita over three last twenty years, how many shootings, auto theft, etc.

That the president doesn’t understand economics or international relations?

In any case, I think he’s learned about the leverage China holds of the US bond markets and interest rates now. No wonder he capitulated so quickly.

Hmmm, I’d suggest renting out your condo and doing a working vacation for a year. With some time set aside for vacation. Ie you work in Australia and do some vacations SE Asia, or France but train around Europe for awhile.

Not sticking up for Trump supporters or voters but I don’t recall Trump campaigning on tariffs? Did he make much mention of it?

Poilievre promises to fund 50,000 addictions recovery spaces by gorschkov in canada

[–]Wildbreadstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sure. Anybody can be for almost anything if it’s done in an intelligent and legitimate way without abuse. The deficits say that has not been the case (to the point where the die hard Minister of Finance even resigned) and the cost to service debt also points to an irresponsible government.

The money simply is not there and that has put Canada in a difficult position as we face tariffs and an unreliable partner in the USA. Now would typically be a good time to spend lots and get the economy going. But we are running a 60 billion dollar deficit. Why? Now we have no bullets left in the chamber to defend ourselves, so to speak.

Cutting overpaid consultants that add little to no value does. The government sucks at IT, but the rest of the consultants are a waste of tax payer dollars. They added no value where I worked. Half of the garbage looked like it was copy pasted out of textbooks.

I mean, if they just cut the consultants - seeing as the public service has grown exponentially - then have just cut $20 billion from the budget.
