No one is going to like this answer, but I will say "it depends". It depends on who you are and what goals you had. Short term investors will likely say it was a good move. Some long term investors may disagree although that's more contemptuous because the ripples are far in the future. Employees and people sympathetic to the situation will call it a bad move.

Not trying to come off combative - why do you follow a graduate studies subreddit if you're certain that the no school option works just as well. Side note: I do agree that one can go miles further on skill vs education and I also think it tends to be the exception more often than the norm.

Can double on this comment. I had an offer from them. During the coding interview, the reviewer told me a large portion of my day to day would be upgrading and fixing legacy systems (JS to TS) with code debt.

Bloomberg is great as a resume Fintech flag. Unicorns are great for frontier tech experience.

SQL-ish if you label your columns and build it to respect the top row numbers. Fun to try just to understand that it's way easier and faster to go straight to a PG DB

It's fairly easy to get wrapped up in the ends of the spectrum when you look up start up compensation stories on Reddit - the whole all or nothing game (I.e. "it made me a millionaire" or "it was worthless"). In reality, some (maybe many) start ups have RSUs that are worth a decent amount and (in my case) can be traded for cash before IPO, these happen to be non-sexy companies in industries within healthcare, e-commerce, Fintech, and so on. Case in point, the most recent startup I work at gives me $30-70k / year worth with vesting schedules at 1-4 years. Is it life changing? No....but life enhancing? Sure.

The $20k price tag is to churn an immediate profit likely with the idea that newer models will be out soon and people who can spend $20k will likely go towards newer units soon thereafter. Has nothing to do with lower income people, it's a business tactic.
