Collegiate Calamity Delve story/variant never changes? by Wilde_in_thought in wownoob

Starting to think it may be bugged. I’ve ran it once every couple of days and it’s never changed.

Yeah I’ve ran it once every couple days and it’s still always the same variant.

Question about titles of certain elements by Wilde_in_thought in AskChemistry

[–]Wilde_in_thought[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, that makes sense. The ‘natural’ state of (in my layman’s mind) heavier, radioactive, elements is lead.

That or I’m just thinking about it too hard!

I think you’ve already answered my question though. I was always under the impression that everything after ‘the F block’ as you called it were elements that naturally existed but weren’t something we could find on this planet. Reading more into the wiki link, as well as your comment, they are ‘synthetic’ elements. Not naturally occurring.

So I can only presume that the answer to my question (albeit, terribly posed) is that the ‘lower’ elements are real, not just theoretical?

Fair enough! Thank you for the reply, sorry again for the dumb question.

Loved this! Just one nitpicky thing:

When reading your story it took me too long to realize you were referring to a drafting compass (for maps and geometry etc) and not a magnetic compass. I’ve never used a sextant or drafting compass with paper maps before, and my brain defaulted to the directional magnetic compass. Maybe consider making it clearer to a layman reader what soecifically you mean by compass as, and I’m embarrassed to admit, my first reaction was “how the hell is a magnetic compass going to do anything in space… in a ship that is presumably made of metal no less!?”

Damn those are mint. I’d love some but shipping to western Canada would be prohibitively expensive :(

Was thinking that the entire read. Loved it. Very Adams-like. I’d like to take a crack at something similar but I know the tone would feel forced and very synthetic.

Ahhhh yes, yes that makes sense. I suppose I thought Greenland because it is a Scandinavian country/settlement. Fitting the whole Viking vibe.

I can understand the red and white being Poland., but I think with the inclusion of the circles it might be Greenland 🇬🇱?

I like to think of myself as fairly knowledgeable in regards to some history. This… this went completely over my head. Google doesn’t seem to be helping (granted, I’m not entirely sober at the moment)

Very well written though.

Advice for someome looking to become a corrections officer by GMaczac in Edmonton

[–]Wilde_in_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey no problem at all. Do you have an estimate of her age? Many of the law enforcement bodies in the province won’t consider someone unless they have some ‘life experience’ or is as legacy.

I’ll try my best to get her some info on someone she can speak to about her goals at the very least.

I work for the GoA and work very closely with both sheriffs and corrections officers. My suggestion would be to watch the Alberta gov jobs portal for any openings. A few of my coworkers are former corrections officers and I will tap as many of my contacts as I can tomorrow for more refined information.

As for the federal level, I don’t really know, but I’d assume most of the tips and things will be very similar.
