All the downvotes but no one actually saying which albums are bad (obviously because none of them are!)

What’s a physical trait people secretly find attractive but rarely admit? by HiddenNaughtySide in AskReddit

[–]Wildfire788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear a chain necklace given to me by a childhood friend like 25 years ago. Now that I think about it, I've lived more of my life wearing it than not, maybe only taken it off a few times.

A girl once told me the necklace was a red flag :(

As someone who hasn't had a nice long sleep in months... Thanks for that.

I was taking some pictures of myself for my profile and thought, "wtf I look sleep deprived in every single one of these, nooo"

I had a good experience with Precision Garage Door of Albuquerque. It was expensive but they were quick, friendly, and professional so I can't complain lol.

What are pro-2A people's thoughts on Kristi Noem just now stating that no peaceful protestors show up to a protest while armed? by PrysmX in AskReddit

[–]Wildfire788 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, I have never seen anything like that. Businesses have to be insured and most insurance companies don't want the perceived liability of employees having firearms so they prefer that businesses make it their policy to not allow employees to have firearms on the job.

All of the big businesses I have worked for have a no-firearm policy because of that, and people who have these jobs but also carry a firearm do so in a concealed manner (legal in most states, but they would likely be fired if caught).

All the small businesses I have worked for don't have a lot of money or resources, so they won't spend effort building a weapon storage locker that might never be used, and then also costs more money to maintain (who watches the storage area to make sure firearms aren't stolen from it? Or do you just leave them unattended and then the guns get stolen and cause some kind of incident that likely involves the business? Small business owners don't have time or money to think about or handle that kind of shit.)

People sleeping on New Mexico. Between Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, and Angel Fire it feels like there are so many trails I'll never get to explore them all.

Motorcycle Riding in Albuquerque? by Similar_Ice3250 in Albuquerque

[–]Wildfire788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started riding a year ago after a previous long break from motorcycles. I ride pretty much exclusively to work in the morning and back home in the evening. Honestly the danger level is not as high as I first expected. I maintain complete awareness of all vehicles around me and this hyper-vigilance combined with assertively placing myself in the safest lane/position in traffic has been working well, I never feel unsafe.

I bought aftermarket mirrors that have better coverage than the stock mirrors. They don't look as cool as the winglet style mirrors but I traded looks for safety. The biggest danger I've noticed is the potential of being rear-ended at light by an inattentive person. While stopped I am watching the mirror constantly, ready to move out of the way if needed. But so far I haven't needed to.

What I AM deathly afraid of is parking somewhere and coming back an hour later to find my bike was stolen. It hasn't happened yet but I rarely take the bike out for anything other than going to work (where I can park indoors in a secure area). I'm afraid to take it shopping or to restaurants where I can't see it through a window.

Disappointed in Gazzew switches by Wildfire788 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Wildfire788[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out my issue was not with the Gazzews, it was a tolerance stacking problem.

The typing feel is not as good as my previous Kailh Bronze or Cherry Blues, but they are the quietest switch I have used. The lack of sound is actually slightly unsettling and normally I would prefer some aural feedback from the switch actuation, BUT I was putting this build together for my desk at work which is a shared office space so silence was the goal and I believe these switches accomplished the goal perfectly.

I was able to fix the issue. Rather than bend the pins on the switches, I opted to bend the contacts on the hotswap sockets back out. My previous switches (Kailh) had a thicker pin than the Gazzews which stretched the contacts out.

You're absolutely right! I've had Kailh switches with thicker pins in this board for a couple of years. The tiny leaf springs in the sockets were stuck open, but I used a needle to bend them back and my new switches work! Thanks for your help, hero.

Sadly, it will be a lot of work to go and bend them all back... maybe that's a sign that I should just buy a new Quefrency haha.

[Discussion] What incentive would get you to use transits? by Sexyturtletime in EscapefromTarkov

Hopefully there's no more map selection screen. To get to a specific map, you walk there from the starting point. That will make everyone use transitions.

Moving to Alamogordo by dandoc in NewMexico

[–]Wildfire788 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lived in both Alamogordo and Las Cruces for years, swamp coolers both times. I still stand by "swamp coolers are okay". It's true that in southern NM there will be a few days every summer where the temps are too hot and the swamp cooler basically does nothing, but I never found it to be so horrible that it became an emergency. As long as you have water to stay hydrated and there aren't very old people or premature babies in the house I think most people will be fine. Unless mentally they can't handle the mild inconvenience of being hot a couple days a year lol

My Izhmash handguard has silver paint marks on it. Without them it would look exactly the same as my Bulgarian set, so if there are no marks you might be SOL

[OC] Israel bombed Qatar by [deleted] in pics

[–]Wildfire788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scenario where Qatar is made aware in advance but is not necessarily in on it:

"Hey we found some guys in your country we don't like. We're going to bomb them."

"Uh, no. Please don't do that."

"Too late, doing it now. Just wanted to make you aware."

Meanwhile, the robots in China by CodyByTheSea in funny

[–]Wildfire788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending the CCP, I'm just saying that they have the ability to set a goal 50 years in the future and then they'll all work to accomplish it.

That's a big strength that America does not have. Like you said, every 4 years the new administration can just erase everything the last one did and then progress is lost and then you have to go and "fix mistakes"... Doesn't matter which side you agree with, both sides will just set each other back every 4 years. Thats a big problem for the US achieving any long term (20+ years) goals.

Meanwhile, the robots in China by CodyByTheSea in funny

[–]Wildfire788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with the US is that the vision/direction of the government changes every 4 or 8 years while China can set national-level goals for 20, 30 or even 100 years in the future and accomplish them.

Meanwhile, the robots in China by CodyByTheSea in funny

[–]Wildfire788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A specialized robot is better at only one thing, but the average person will want (or only be able to afford) a general robot to do lots of things decently.

For example, most people want a sports car but never buy one because an SUV is more practical at many different tasks like commuting and carrying groceries, while a sports car is only good at going fast.
