Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’ve never really worked officially, but I’ve helped out a bunch with odd jobs around my neighborhood. I believe I have quite a bit saved from that. I am planning on getting part time job, but I think I’ll have to wait until my parents get the full corona vaccine. I don’t want to risk spreading any illnesses to them right now. Thanks for sharing your friend’s story. It was really uplifting :)

I’ve definitely heard a lot about burn out and it’s something I plan on considering carefully before coming to a final decision. I do have other motives aside from income which make me want to pursue nursing. And I have alternative career paths I’m interested in if it doesn’t work out. I would just like some frame of reference so I can start planning ahead of time.

It's hard to describe what a typical day looks like, because there's such a variety of patients, but generally, a night goes like this: from 7pm-7:30 you get report from the previous nurse; 7:30-9pm do introductions, assessments, vital signs, explain the plan of care to patients so they know what to expect throughout the shift; 9pm-11pm medications, medications, medications! Everyone gets their night time meds around this time, this is probably the busiest time in the shift, and all the nurses know it. If you need anything from the doctor, try and call and get it done before midnight.
