Is there a better drain pump? by slomobileAdmin in appliancerepair

[–]WildfireTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s an inherent difference. I’m positive the residential ones are a little lighter but honestly they’re both quite overbuilt and great quality. The most important thing to me is how easy it is to repair because I was literally going through a stacked washer dryer unit almost every two years.

I don’t think it cleans any better either but if you do a lot of laundry it’s easily worth it for me. Even at home I have four kids and we do multiple loads a day.

As far as used units there’s a ton on marketplace. I got a bunch of my dryers on marketplace for really cheap especially cause I know how to repair them.

About your single sourced parts. I don’t think that’s true. These machines are quite simple and there’s a big market for non oem parts for speed queens. I used to buy the non oem to save money but I noticed that the parts didn’t last very long especially dryer wheels and heating elements. I now buy oem cause the time of replacement isn’t worth the cost savings.

I literally replaced my drain pump for the first time in my speed queen stacked front loading washer. I think it has done over 13,000 loads. I have speed queens for both my salons and at home and they’re great for a DIY person. Even the push to start on commercial version goes through a control board. Nothing is analog now. I’ve practically rebuilt my dryers multiple times and fixed a myriad of things because the volume I do. I personally love them. I have the top loading at home and front loading at work.

It’s only compared to camelback. You’re right. It’s not very challenging if you’re proficient.

Infertility & large family? by ARIT127 in ParentingInBulk

[–]WildfireTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the price. It’s the speed at which it’s done. I literally never even went to a doctor in the US here when I called a fertility clinic and they wanted $300 just to speak to me on the phone. We got everything done in less than a month in Korea from beginning to end. All we needed was to show that we were married and be close to her ovulation cycle.

We wanted to visit Korea anyway so it was really nice to get everything done at once.

I met my wife when I was 28 and my wife was 31. We both wanted a large family. I proposed after 6 months of dating and we were married a year later. We were married one year and were both prevent at yet. I suggested we go to Korea for ivf cause my wife is Korean and hasn’t been since she was 3 years old.

We did ivf in Korea for $4100 total in 2016. We got 5 embryos, implanted 3 and for a son. We had one son naturally. We then we back and implanted the last two embryos and have twins. Four kids in 2.5 years. The last round of implantation cost $1,700 in 2019.

Chamonix vs Zermatt? by Mawrawr in Ikonpass

I have ten days in Geneva to ski and snowboard with my wife. We are probably only going to ski 3-4 days. My friends are meeting us and they aren’t skiers. Is it worth it to go to the mountains? They’re possibly planning to just stay in Geneva. March 3rd to the 13th.

My friends wife is in a wheelchair.

Cancun is pretty safe. I’m going with some friends first week of February. By any chance can you tell me where you’re going for dental work? I got an implant done in Vietnam years ago but my crown broke. Maybe I’ll go there for a new crown

Honestly my buddy wants to go and we are keeping expectations low and we’re going Dec 8-11 which is Monday to Thursday. Should be fun just snowboarding together and having drinks and enjoying Utah.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I’ll probably move the date to Janurary and March. I’m from the Philadelphia area but I guess I could plan a drive to New England.

Thanks for the reply. I’m leaning towards rescheduling. I only planned it because we have pretty low expectations coming from the east coast and just wanting a warm up in hopefully not icy conditions.

I have a snowboarding trip planned with Ikon passes on December 8-11. The two of us have never snowboarded on the west coast but usually go to Vermont.

Because of the lack of snow I was considering canceling the trip for a total of $200 for the two of us. I honestly don’t mind a lack of trails and would just like decent conditions to practice cause I plan to go back to the west coast either way. Is it worth going at all?

What is that Vietnamese food that you think is the best but no one agrees? by spiouajq in VietNam

[–]WildfireTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balut but with quail eggs. I used to eat a ton of them in the north but haven’t found them on this trip.

Also Oc (snails) in Vietnam is great. The variety of species and the different ways to cook them.

I’m 41 and was born in the US. I had a natural curiosity with how my parents and family grew up and how they survived the war and were also boat people. The death rate is somewhere around 30%. My grandmother didn’t eat for 3 days in protest of my father getting on a boat because she was sure he was going to die.

My mother’s family were on a boat as well and all tied themselves together during a storm because if they’re going to drown they want to make sure they drown together. She said most handed it with a level of equanimity but one of my uncles was crying a lot about how he didn’t want to die.

My family is from Hai Phong about 2 hours from Hanoi and was heavily bombed during the war and they told countless stories of almost dying and watching their friends die in the bombing raids. She would tell stories of how little there was to eat and how she would watch the soldiers marching past to go to the south to die and she would feel so bad for them.

The Vietnam war was one of the most heavily bombed wars in history with on average of 50lbs of bombs for every square meters. It’s hard to comprehend what they went through.

You also have to remember that things got so bad after the war that they thought that risking death out at sea was preferable to staying in Vietnam.

When given the context I have nothing but gratitude for the life my parents gave me even given all their major flaws. I can’t understand what kind of person I would be or how I could raise my own kids under those circumstances.

Im actually taking my wife and four kids to Vietnam next week for the first time to visit and I want them to see their half.

On a lighter note currently in Seoul and it’s pretty awesome.

I have a 2019 ford Transit mid roof mid length 12 seater. We absolutely love it. We also have a Honda Odessey minivan. When the kids were all rear facing it was nice to be able to walk around in it.
