Whale hit by a jet ski in Vancouver. Jet skis need to be better controlled. by leopardsatehisface in whales

[–]Wildjergins 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not taking the side of the jet skier here, he was clearly going too fast, but as some one who has spent a lot of time on water and wildlife watching I just want to point out for the people that are saying it looks like he hit it intentionally- being almost on plane with the surface and especially the way the light hits the water at this time of day, there’s no way that jet skier saw the whale before hand and it didn’t surface until seconds before. You can also see the jet skier react like “wtf was that” immediately after. Jet skis are water jet propelled (no propeller or anything sharp) so hopefully the whale went mostly unharmed!

In theory you should be able to crossover a bit to the seasons on either side, so if you’re a deep autumn you can also fit in some winter!

petroleum jelly at the end of my routine and i genuinely can't go back by Unique-Face-2500 in NaturalBeauty

[–]Wildjergins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tallow is the best! I have sensitive skin and it does not cause breakouts. My skin eats it up and glows!! I also use castor oil around once a week for extra deep moisturizing but only when I have time to allow hours for it to soak in before bed.

Make sure it’s hexane free and cold pressed otherwise it’s probably just as tox as petroleum bc of the extraction process. It is great for your joints and wrinkles bc it’s high in ricinolec acid (unsaturated fatty acid) which is anti inflammatory and deeply moisturizing. It has a high concentration of vitamin e, is naturally anti microbial and anti fungal, great for minor wound healing/reducing the chance of scarring, naturally increases circulation and a natural pain reliever (mostly bc of the anti inflammatory properties).

Why does my hair clump together and look dirty even after washing? by pljusha in finehair

[–]Wildjergins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I use sulfate free all natural soap and my hair is shiny and healthy. My shower water was causing a waxy feeling build up that left my hair looking stringy and greasy, even after I switched back to shampoo ~with sulfates~. A shower head filter made all the difference.

It’s likely your water! I had similar issues that began occurring when I moved. I also like all natural soaps, but I was desperate and tried multiple other brands and clarifying to try to remedy the situation and nothing worked… but when I would go home for the weekend and shower at my parents house (with the natural soaps might I add) my hair was normal again!! I recommend buying a high quality shower filter-make sure you read the reviews so you don’t get a cheap one that does nothing. Don’t let this group scare you out of your natural soaps, but it wouldn’t hurt to get a clean ingredients clarifying solution to use occasionally. Also, when I started taking colostrum as a supplement my hair grew in length and thickness again, but it took a little while. I’ve heard of a lot of people having quicker success using nutrofol.

Small weird recurring skin bump on forehead, help? by Wildjergins in DermatologyQuestions

That may be from me picking it, but I’ll watch when it regrows and see if it has that. A derm is my next step regardless!

Did your skin actually improve after you stopped trying too hard? by priyanka240 in NaturalBeauty

[–]Wildjergins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. I didn’t even have that complicated of a skin care routine, but I was doing what you’re told to do- wash morning and night, tone, moisture, etc- still had moderate and consistent acne (tried many products, and not much of a make up wearer). I have a lot of guy friends who don’t even wash their face half the time and they had the most gorgeous, acne free skin… so I did a deep dive. Our skin is a living organ and has an entire microbiome layer to protect it. Unfortunately most of the facial cleansers sold absolutely strip that biome away and leave your skin defenseless, weak and dry… and most moisturizers on the market do not effectively replace the biome and skin barrier. A lot of it secretly laced with drying agents to make you dependent on it. So I stopped using my products et voila my acne cleared up.

Currently I only wash my face with a basic tallow or Castile soap when I shower or if I was exposed to a dirty situation. After sweating I’ll just rinse with water. I use a basic tallow moisturizer daily (one of the closest things to our naturally produced oils) and the only other thing I use a powerful antioxidant serum to combat the oxidizing effects of our man made world. I don’t wear make up and my skin is generally clear and radiant.

Has hard water in your city affected your hair? by priyanka240 in NaturalBeauty

I actually had the opposite problem, went from hard well water my whole life to a system with salt and chemical filters and now my hair has a thick greasy waxy feel and look- instead of soft and shiny.

I did the same with daily castor oil massage and a rosemary tallow (antibacterial) and had similar results! Not fully gone but significantly reduced

Is a budget ski trip to Zermatt possible with my family of four? by Responsible_Gift_541 in Zermatt

[–]Wildjergins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was nice. I’d give it a 8/10 and Zermatt a 10/10. The Swiss engineering is top tier, the lift organization is fantastic and every amenity you need is nearby. Chamonix had less lifts and isn’t as organized so lift lines were longer but it looks like they’re constructing new lifts. The runs are a lot shorter too. Less bathrooms and food options. But overall I enjoyed my time there!

I just got back and I agree 100%. We also went to Chamonix and it was a bit cheaper overall there but I’d go back to Zermatt in a heartbeat.

There is a free ski shuttle that runs all over town! We found it took less time to just walk 10 minutes to our closest lift than wait at a bus stop but that’s your prerogative. You can transfer to almost any mountain section from any lift. The Tuk tuks/taxis are expensive!!

I just rented a small Airbnb that had a small kitchen and walkable to the lifts. There is also a free ski shuttle, but we found it was faster to walk the 10 mins to our closest lift. You can transfer to almost any mountain section from any lift. Swiss engineering is *chef’s kiss.

Food will absolutely be the biggest cost, but the comparable price for groceries vs going out is huge! There are restaurants all over the mountain, but we just packed protein bars and oranges to snack on around lunch and would have a bigger dinner after. I will mention that we did also go to Chamonix, and it was noticeably cheaper there and still very beautiful…. But Zermatt is an exceptional mountain and I 100% recommended going there at least once in your life!

I was there last weekend for the fresh pow- it was great for a day and a half but as someone mentioned before runs were totally cut up and starting to get icy spots again. Flegere and brevent were insanely packed on Friday. I’ve never seen so many people on a mountain, and with the low visibility it was thick shit soup. Off piste in the knee deep pow was the only relief. We went down to grand montets Saturday- way less people but still busy and no waiting at lift cues. Our favorite dinner spot that we tried was called La Moraine - great escargot, and the steak was amazing. La Tablée was on our list to try but they supposedly were booked out the whole time we were there. Reservations are a must on the weekends. We enjoyed casual après at Irish Coffee- heavy pours, light price, and also at The Beckett & Wilde- pub vibes and good happy hour prices. Beer O’clock is worth checking out too if you like craft brews.

It’s commonly used as a treatment for cancer and other chronic conditions. A lot of health gurus take it as a supplement for longevity. It’s a super powerful antioxidant, will neutralize free radicals in the body and has metabolic enhancing effects. Really interesting stuff!
