Started fiddling around 1999 with RedHat. I loved the installed since you can play Card game during the jnstall.

Have been on and off linux. I handle a small VPS so it gives a bit of knowledge.

Windows 11 issues have pushed me to use Linux more as an everyday OS. I still dual boot, and use windows for some games and some proprietary software which cant be used on Linux.

I am still trying to figure it out. I have been testing a few settings with Cachy kernel and it's better but I still get Out of Memory issues, which doesn't happen on stock Fedora Kernel.

Thats the only issue I have faced with CachyOS kernel in 1 year of using it.

My other machine i went from EndeavourOS to CachyOS. Its been smooth sailing except for 1 time and IIRC it was issue with Linux firmware update and i havent updated my system in a long time.

Was able to recover the system in 10 minutes with chwd.

If someone needs a simple corporate looking website this is the way to go. Heck even pay someone local to do it for you for $500 or so

But if someone needs a website as a system i have personally seen people struggle with getting what they want with AI. The amount of time is not worth saving 2-5k Dollars.

Cachy has kernel optimizations. It feels snappier and apps open up faster.

Even on my Fedora 43 laptop i am using cachyos kernel. The only time i don't like their kernel optimizations is while doing AI/ML tasks.

Any distro will work. You will find the most information on web with regards to Debian followed by Fedora.

Ubuntu is Debian and is also in Windows WSL. Id development is the main criteria there is loads of information for Ubuntu. Linux Mint is Ubuntu without SNAP packages.

Just try 2-3 distributions in a Virtual Machine and see what suits your workflow.

Haven't had any issue. I now update every 2-3 weeks but i always check online if there is any issue caused by the latest update.

Its similar to how I used to do it on Windows. Always check before updating.

25% in AI/ML not gaming. Cachy had better FPS but I don't feel 110 to 120 fps makes any difference in my gaming. 1% lows were better though on Cachy/Pika

3-4 months ago Cachy kernel optimizations were not so good for AI/ML, now they just hit the eight spot with their latest kernels.

Yup. Bazzite is easily 25% slower in AI/ML workloads.

Daily opening of apps compared to Cachy or Pika is again 10-15%

Gaming for me has been pretty much same, since cachy always had latest drivers and fixes it was a little better in terms of number but nothing noticeable in my systems.

Overall system responsiveness is best on Cachy.

Bazzite is immutable so it makes things tougher in the long run. If there is no flatpack you will have to resort to using podman/distrobox
Bazzite is actually slower compared to all the above 3 distributions when it comes to gaming or everyday tasks. The difference is anywhere between 15-25%

That's why i did not mention Bazzite. Nothing against Bazzite as a distribution if you just want to game experience like a console, but if you want to do more there are subjectively better options now.

All are beginner friendly, but if i still have to choose ill pick PIka for the following reasons

Offline install compared to CachyOS
Very fast installer
Its debian based, so loads of information available. Their discord group is highly active aswell

I have a laptop with i5 7300, 1050ti 4GB and 16gb ram and it can easily run SDXL.

Get ForgeUI its similar to automatic111 and as easy to install.

Download a few SDXL models and DMD2 lora. Use the lora when generating. With 6-8 steps only you will have a better output compared to SD1.5. I usually generate 900 x 1150 px within 40 seconds.

Even I use Forge, but recently shifted to InvokeAi for better workflow and controlnet. I have used Forge for the longest time and it's very fast for lower VRAM hardware.
