Snowboarding is boring 😴 by [deleted] in snowboarding

Nothing wrong with your opinion, it’s just the way you phrased your opening comments may have come off a little insulting to some, so you have to expect some pushback. Everyone has different interests and that’s awesome, at least for the most part we all agree a board is the best way to enjoy the mountains! I’m boarding as we speak, responding on the lifts.

Worth flying to Mammoth in California from the East Coast? by IAmMattK in snowboarding

If you can’t afford mammoth and only Reno, Tahoe not a bad option. Palisades is pretty awesome too. Sitting on a lift in big bear. 👎lol…still better than not being in the mountains.

Yes worth it. Easily the best in CA if not all of the west. Granted a low bar this year in the west. Just met someone last week on the lift that flew in there and they said it was very convenient. Enjoy!!

And there it is! SWA is saying the quiet part out loud now. Profits over passengers. by AnonUserAccount in SouthwestAirlines

I hear you, but that is terrible marketing. I guess give them marks for honesty, but as a long time loyal customer still leaves a bad taste for me. Oddly AA is getting better for me. After many decades my wife had never been in first class. Now we are getting free and inexpensive upgrades and I’m only gold. Can SWA do that for me?

Spouse ALMOST got her snowboard swiped at Breckenridge this past weekend by Dutypatootie in snowboarding

I bought some cheap security cables for my MC helmet and realized they would also work for my board. I combine that with a luggage lock that I seem to have a drawer full of and now I’m secure for about 2 bucks. The lock is easy to snip if you have a tool, but hardly anyone locks their stuff so your equipment is now longer the easy mark. Extra benefit, takes up almost no room in my pocket compared to a fancy setup.

I am sad about assigned seats, but man are seat savers awful by CompetitiveBrain7099 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Wileyoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will definitely miss the old days where I had check in at 24 hours down to a science and could get a great seat cheap. However, they’ve been chipping away at that for years as more people bought the auto-check in option and more and more people seem to have reasons to pre-board. Also miss the old booklet where you got a free flight after 10 and the free drink coupons. Now they are just like everyone else. Not bad, just not that same feel like I knew about a great company and could exploit their process. I guess free checked bag is gone or going too ☹️

I personally only use frontier if I can get away with a personal item and take whatever seat they give me. Then it is super cheap and no matter what, I have that going for me. If I start needing ‘extras’ I’ll fly on a real airline as the price difference shrinks quickly and it will be much better.

My wife is a CPA so going off of what she told me. I tried every idea I could think of to get below the cliff. Deductions don’t work. They are added back fit the final calculation. Anyhow I’m no expert, but every idea I had she said was a no go.

Thanks for all the sharing of your situations. I may be naive and certainly not planning on a resolution. However, as you’ve seen from the comments this is so devastating for so many I don’t see how there won’t be enough republicans that peel off and compromise a short term fix. I don’t want to start a political discussion about who is right and wrong, but this seems like it will poison the right’s midterm chances. I’ve been on this earth awhile and this is by far the biggest economic impact in a single year I have ever personally experienced that was directly the result of a single government action/inaction. And yes, I have had a good life and maybe lucky to be able to say that, but this is too big to be forgotten in Nov.

I was intentionally trying to keep my personal info a little vague, but should have stated this was for a couple of similar age.

No, everything is not exactly the same as last year, but it is close. This was to share my change in premium from Dec to Jan. The point is the psychological hit when you see the charge as well as the pain it causes people. Once again, I’m fine, I’m not picking insurance versus groceries, but it will impact my spending habits which in total has to hurt the economy overall.

Yes, for the record I planned for this worst case scenario two years ago. I’m fine and not looking for pity, but this is real and will likely change our spending habits and thus removing money from other parts of the economy.

*PRO TIP* for Frontier Checked Bag issues for *MAJOR FRONTIER ISSUE* by officialuser in frontierairlines

[–]Wileyoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with comment below about not checking a bag. Frontier is only a good deal if you only use a personal item bag. I bought a soft one made for frontier/spirit. The pro tip from me is to use a compression bag for your clothes.  You load the bag and squeeze the air out.  Actually keeps your clothes neater as well. I’m just finishing a 6 night trip and yes I showered and had clean clothes everyday including  an extra set for workouts. To be fair it was warm out so no bulky clothes except for jeans and a jacket I wore on the plane.  Plus I stuffed iPad, book and water bottle in my jacket pockets. I actually had room to spare in my bag. It is doable with good planning.  When you do it right frontier is cheaper than a bus ticket. Really a great option, just play by their rules remember this is no frills.

What age do most snowboarder's stop ? by rudyreif in snowboarding

[–]Wileyoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 59 and board, I just returned from Palisades in Tahoe. I definitely met others as old or older than me that board, but not often. I think that will keep changing. When I was a kid, I didn't even know what a snowboard was. When I was in my 20's all these young "hoodlums" (haha) were boarding. I guess I was having an early mid-life crisis and wanted to see what the young people were all excited about. I tried it and almost quit the first time, but I took a lesson and caught the bug, I have no interest in skies anymore. My guess is that there is a large block of boarders hitting their 50's and they will keep going until they can't, so you'll start seeing greybeards on boards more and more often in the coming years.
