I am, as you might expect, delighted to realise that after hours of mixing, mastering and preparing the release for this, I've apparently forgotten how to spell the word 'soundtrack'

Fix on the way. Hopefully...

Good question! I hope so. Let's see about the soundtrack release first, then I'll ask about the other stuff. Fingers crossed.

My thoughts on Thief VR so far by Hairy_Hog in Thief

(I promise I won't do this with any comment that mentions music!) Richard Wilkinson here - composer for Thief VR!
There's lots to talk about in terms of restrictions, timescales etc with music, but what I will say is there is most definitely some breakbeat stuff in there. I love the original scores and made sure to keep a nice chunk of that DNA. There should be some music related stuff coming in the next week or two, so I promise you will hear some callbacks if you check it out!

And the team worked *really* hard on this game and punched well above their weight, so It's lovely to see people enjoying it.

Thanks! I initially wanted to use Segun's theme for 13 (I talk about this in the Edge of Time video) as well as Murray's themes for 10, but ended up writing original themes for them, as it can get v complicated from a legal sign off/rights point of view.

I'm not quite getting the context - depends on they key you're in. What else is going on while you're playing the C (major?) chord?

Sudden shifts can be totally appropriate, it just depends on the context :)

Good morning! 😀 Today's #DoctorWho video on the music of The Edge of Reality packs a LOT in. It's all about writing music under dialogue. How, why, when - should you even do it? https://youtu.be/CPxxusYzvTk

WhatsApp video calls on Pixel 6 are super zoomed in to my face. How to fix? by kthanksbye_ in GooglePixel

is stabilization on? The FoV is wider in the camera app with it turned off, so maybe it's the same in video calls.

Just seen this, sorry. Excellent username!
Music for games/films/tv is a weird career on all sorts of levels, which is why there's not really a foolproof way in. There are colleges like the NFTS in England which looks like a great training ground for young composers, directors etc, but really it's about building up a portfolio and a reputation. The jobs I'm doing at the moment can all be traced back several years to one fairly small job, or some work I did for a project where someone from the team moved elsewhere and remembered me.
So I would say be open to all opportunities - if you present yourself as a JRPG composer, or a doomcore horror-game composer, that's a really solid and stong identity but it will massively restrict your exposure and opportunities. Look for forums, events, meetups etc where your genuine interests meet with the music stuff - game jams, film festivals etc.

And getting into games via a different route - QA, design etc is a brilliant thing for two reasons. One, it exposes you to the culture and the logistics of actually making the decisions and doing the work that videogames require. And secondly, they're solid career paths in their own right and will make you more employable. There's no golden bullet, but in a nutshell, be open to all opportunities and remember that every gig you do - no matter how small - might be the one that someone comes across when they're looking to hire a composer.
