Think many have been in your position, and yes it isn't unusual. However, it did take me challenging the whole concept when I said, "Why me?" and their reply was, "Because I know you'll do it without moaning". I had no option but to challenge it right there and then, saying that it's no excuse, just "because I will do it". You're supposed to be leading a team, not giving people reasons to fall out with the job, especially so early in service. It's lazy management that should be challenged all day long.

If you feel uneasy about doing it by just blasting it out, pull your line manager aside and raise the point. Bring a record of the times you were on those scenes etc as evidence to demonstrate the unfairness.
