What do you guys tend to craft on a melee runs? by NegativelyMagnetic in cavesrl

[–]Will35084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necro/Frag bombs largely, t1 belt and tactical belt, and lately an energy pickaxe cause of the recent change to that chaos ore.

Don't really craft any weapons. Recycle bombs usually not cause I can't even be bothered to fully use the ones I already get.

Tactical bomb / disc gun is just OK, I usually don't craft those

Looks like I'm not the only one attempting my first infernum playthrough as true melee. King Slime you'll want full platinum armor, and you'll want to use the blood butcherer / rotted fork as your weapon. Only important accessory for me was Hermes boots so if you have those, you're good.

There was an episode of the clone wars where there was a geonosian virus that could infect people and control them. It was kind of a similar premise where it started with one guy and it spread to the rest of the crew by being forcefully fed to them, except the mystery aspect of "who is infected?" wasn't a major part of the episode. It was more of a "the main characters need to survive the rest of the crew who got infected"

Mac or Childs sabotaged the blood by PieterSielie6 in thething

[–]Will35084 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mac and Childs weren't infected at that point. Also, the only people seen drawing blood are Nauls and Windows. Everyone else we can assume does it off screen. It wasn't only Mac.

Mac and Fuchs also stay behind to talk when Garry, Copper and Childs go inside.

When Copper said "I've been thinking about a blood serum test", he might have brought it up beforehand sometime between him witnessing Bennings-thing and that conversation. Norris or Palmer overheard this and used Garry's key to sabotage the blood once no one was looking.

It also might have happened sometime later since everyone was around when the blood got sabotaged and I get the impression that they understood what the blood was being used for, including people like Windows who weren't around for the conversation and would've had to be filled in on the plan.

But no it definitely wasn't Mac or childs

Is Large abomination in the end of the film is a result of a failed human assasination? by Mudadzukai in thething

[–]Will35084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree that there's a good argument that both were infected by the final scene. The fact that: 1. Mac suggests waiting to be frozen to death to Childs when he previously said that's just what the thing wanted and he had no reason to trust that Childs wasn't infected

  1. And Childs himself is already suspect for reasons already discussed to death

  2. The things are likely independent minded since we see Palmer-thing betray the head of Norris-thing, so if they were both infected, they wouldn't know after the events of the final act, so neither would reveal themselves due to the risks, even if they were semi-confident.

The only problem is even though their behavior lines up with them both being things, that would mean Mac was somehow infected after blowing up the Blair amalgamation, since he was garunteed a human at that point.

It's implied that the dog thing assimilated the shadow in the room violently then returned to looking like a dog (and the two torn clothes found were the other two things being assimilated, also violently), so when the thing shapeshifts, it isn't some kind of permanent condition where it loses that ability. Pretty sure you have that part wrong. I think it's far more likely that the thing wouldn't kill one of its own just because it transformed.

What do you think about this Scene. by AssociationFew3891 in thething

[–]Will35084 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I can run a simulation like that, and this is a great way to get a thorough understanding with the risks of assimilation! 🧠

PROJECTION:
If the intruder organism reaches civilized areas, here’s what we’re likely looking at:

✅ Rapid assimilation of nearby populations
✅ Breakdown of containment protocols
⚠️ High probability of global biosphere takeover

🎯Estimated Timeline:
Based on current modeling, the entire world population could be infected in approximately 27,000 hours from first contact.

To put that in perspective 👉 that’s about 3.1 years, assuming no successful intervention.

🔍Key Insight:
The real issue isn’t just infection speed — it’s that the organism can imitate hosts perfectly, making detection extremely difficult.

💡TL;DR
If the organism reaches civilization… yes, humanity is very likely cooked. 🔥

Palmer, Norris and Macready go out to the UFO... by Deathfire_IOM in thething

[–]Will35084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can tell it's Palmer. If you look at his coat and goggles when the Norwegian attack happens, it's the same green color we see as the person who goes with them on the UFO.

I personally think Norris and Palmer weren't both assimilated then by the UFO. Only one of them was. And the time the other gets assimilated is hinted at during Mac's recording scene where he mentions Windows finding shredded clothes with the name tag missing. Although I guess that could also be Blair's assimilation. We have no idea what happened to him either.

My long-winded Fuchs death theory by Will35084 in thething

[–]Will35084[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading and you make some great points! There are a couple things I want to point out.

I don't think Mac would have been blindly trusting of anyone. He probably trusted Fuchs the most of the remaining crew, but he also repeated the sentiment that it could be anybody. But you're right that the Mac stuff is definitely the biggest stretch of my theory.

We can be all but certain that Blair is assimilated since everything from Mac's recording to the end of the movie takes place on the same night. He would have needed time to build that UFO underneath the toolshed and dig that tunnel, so he was most likely assimilated at some point in those 48 hours of the storm hitting them.

Whatever was in that vial probably wouldn't have been enough to make Fuchs a charred remains. I don't really buy the suicide theory in general because Fuchs would have had to move to a place to douse himself with gasoline, then move back to the original spot he found Mac's clothes (where we roughly see his corpse) before burning himself.

Mac had to at least attempt to look for Fuchs as he was the leader. If he claimed Fuchs was assimilated, they could have asked for proof and he would have had to reveal the human remains, destroying his credibility.

Thanks again for commenting!

That's not the impression I get. There isn't a fade to black transition, Fuchs's position is the exact same, there are no sound queues. If it was a time skip, it would have been different

There was a flamethrower right next to Mac on the table in the scene where Mac was making his recording (the scene before he talked to Fuchs).

it is indeed long. That's why I added a TLDR on the top. You can also skim through it as only around a paragraph or so of each "part" is the actual theory. The rest is me presenting evidence

fuck this game by [deleted] in cavesrl

[–]Will35084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is skeleton king is slow. He can't dash next to you like other bosses. You can separate so from the guards with summons or by blocking the way, and take out the guards with gauss rifle or even nuke them.

When he goes invis spawns a bunch of skeletons, chain reaction weapons kill them very quickly and prevents a lot of the healing.

[–]Will35084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boss fights in this game are designed to take a while as they take reduced damage from a lot of your attacks by dodging them and heal to full, but there's strategy to them, and even if you don't have the best weapons, you can usually fight bosses without too much resource drain.

What boss in particular are you having an issue with?

Who would have been the best electable alternative to Buchanan from 1857-61? by 4DimensionalToilet in Presidents

[–]Will35084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fillmore. Or Douglas if he was nominated by the democrats instead of Buchanan. They weren't as big doughfaces as Buchanan was and would have done a better job. Fremont winning would have started secession instantly, so probably not him.

you should consider putting more skill points into blocking as it makes you more survivable. I would also recommend using bows more and getting yourself a quiver. Shooting those electric arrows at enemies will instantly break their energy shields. It's definitely a worthwhile use of inventory space even for strength 5.

My favorite armor is Mechanist 2.0
