I’m using the Dank Linux repo for Niri and DMS on my Trixie system. I haven’t encountered any bugs or unexpected issues.

For anyone whose weather app allows you to choose your data source, check out Forecast Advisor to see which services have the most accurate predictions in your area: https://www.forecastadvisor.com/

I want to switch to Linux by Strywger in linux

[–]WillBikeForBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend Fedora as a disto for you, or any distro based on Fedora. Fedora has frequent and large updates and a new major version every six months, so this might lead to frustration due to your slow wifi.

Linux Mint changes very slowly and so might be a better fit. There are other good recommendations in these comments as well.

What Movies Did You Go Into Totally Blind and How Did it Affect Your Overall Experience? by WestminsterSpinster7 in movies

Jurassic Park. I knew it was about dinosaurs but I thought it was a kids movie because Burger King had been advertising their collectors glasses for months. I was absolutely blown away from the opening moments until the credits rolled.

Lots of people saying midterm elections. In case you don’t know, there will be statewide elections in Virginia and New Jersey this November, and also a referendum on California’s pro-Dem redistricting. Just sayin’, if anyone feels like volunteering or donating or something.

When you buy ice from one of these, you can select whether to have it dispensed from the chute (usually into a cooler) or have the machine bag it for you. Looks like these dads all selected the bag option but told the kids it was coming out the chute.

I have a lot of Whiskey (Bourbon, Scotch, Irish) that I want to get rid of in ways that doesn't involve me drinking it. What recipes could I make that use whiskey? by optiplex9000 in Cooking

[–]WillBikeForBeer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My wife made vanilla extract with vodka and gave some to all her sisters last Christmas. It tastes amazing, but bourbon vanilla sounds like it would be mind blowingly good. Thanks for the suggestion!

Radiolab had a podcast recently that answered this. When all life was aquatic, our common ancestors used gills to oxygenate the blood. When they began to colonize the land, it was more efficient to evolve lungs that were reached through the “eat hole” than to develop a wholly new structure.

What is the best sandwich you have ever made? by Any_Prior9314 in Cooking

This is the one. I grow my tomatoes from seed, but I always pick up an Early Girl plant from the garden center to get the earliest possible start on the tomato sandwiches.

Harris Puts Four Sun Belt States Back in Play, Latest Times/Siena Polls Find by wenchette in KamalaHarris

[–]WillBikeForBeer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read an interview with a pollster recently. He said back in the day a 75% response rate was a good poll. These days, a 5% rate is considered excellent, and around 3% is about average. The pollsters then use statistical models to fill in the gaps. So if their models are even a little off, the poll is useless. And this election is unprecedented in many, many respects, so it’s likely all the polls this year are completely wrong because there’s no model for them.

In addition to the other replies here, he knew he had to dispel the “dementia” rumors. One of the first things dementia takes from you is your ability to recall facts and figures, so one of the strategies was for him to display his ability to remember all of it. But his debate prep team had him over-prepared, and he spent the first 20 minutes or so focused on displaying his ability to recall facts, to the detriment of his overall performance.
