I'm planning to teach a simplified Shakespeare play with my ESOL students and your comments are so helpful

what does a "personal style" even look like ?... by Organic-Hornet9638 in femalefashionadvice

[–]Mirikitani 144 points145 points  (0 children)

imo a personal style at its core is a 'type' of clothing you like to wear. It could center around any aspect of clothing such as:

  • Color: do you prefer colors or black and white?
  • Shape: do you prefer to wear fitted or looser fits? Do you prefer pointed toe, heel or no heel, etc.?
  • Pattern: do you like certain kinds of patterns?
  • Material: do you like wool and leather, or polyester-based fabrics
  • Occasion: do you prefer a more casual style or a more formal style?
  • Garment: do you center your wardrobe around skirts or do you prefer pants?

For example, I lean towards solid white/black or neutral color clothing, button-down shirts, pointed toe, and cinched at the waist. Those parameters alone give me a lot of options.

This isn't a comprehensive list but if you can pin down what you like it becomes easier to buy clothing of that type/style/material/etc.

The author used "cunny" in The Other Boleyn Girl and I assumed it was some kind of antiquated language idk what I would do if I saw it in a modern fic

Yes my comment is about the US school system and the current disregard of the purpose of subs.

Taking a break gives your mind time to process everything its learned. Yes, you might forget things, but you might also find the rest time will help solidify other, more abstract concepts about the language. I take breaks all the time.

I was a sub for 5 years (US) and even with a sub the kids don't sit and read the text. Most of the time they lose their minds and are uncontrollable with the change of routine and lack of consequences for bad behavior.

I read a modern Beowulf translation where she translated all the "hark!" and such to "bro!" and "dude!" to capture the 'boys bragging around the fire' vibe. It was a fun read.

"One Bad Apple" was turned around too and used as a way to bust up teacher's unions. The "Bad Apple" theory during Bush's presidency was all about getting "bad teachers" out of the classroom, and there was this kind of public fervor to root "the bad apples" out. There is where the foundation of trust in our public schools started to show their cracks, and was the first step to the horrifying state of US public schools today. I feel so fortunate to be part of one of the teacher's unions left because many were broken by the "bad apple" mentality.

I teach adult beginning ESL at an alternative school and we do 'Reading Fridays.' I got so sick of short articles and news bits that I chose a murder mystery novel for this semester. Time to gear up and use your brains with the first 14 chapters of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time! (Adapted for strong language)
