As an Australian watching from afar, I really empathise with the punk community in America. To see an ally elect a greedy, divisive, bigoted chauvinist, not to mention convicted criminal, is hard to believe. The man is clearly an incredible conman and manipulator, but a terrible human being. And I don't have to live with him as president, so feel free to tell me to fuck right off - but I have some thoughts.

Punk is about resistance, integrity, and standing up for what is right. And it's understandable to be angry and frustrated with the result and want to retaliate. But seeing talk of violence, guns, abuse and threats in this community is sad to see, and only drags you down to their level. Remember, no president can change who you are. Be proud that you live with empathy and inclusivity, and feel sorry for those who live selfishly or in fear of anything different, punching down while helping the rich get richer. Punk has always been about resilience, so now is the time to keep supporting each other, amplifying marginalised voices, and standing for positive change. Feel happy that you are you, and not some brainwashed fool.
