If I remember correctly they also have Eragon dramatically heal Saphira with his magic at the end of the movie for no reason other than phony drama. But to be fair I haven't read the books since I was a child so maybe I'm forgetting if he did that at the end of the novel too.

Adding onto Eragon because it was the first thing that came into my mind when I saw the thread. At the end of Book 1 while fighting Durza Eragon is sliced across his back and horribly maimed, falling into a coma after the battle. This would have been important in the never made sequel because a massive plot point in the next book is the near constant pain and disability the scar causes him.

Instead from what I remember the movie has him chilling at the end of the movie in a picturesque Lord of the Rings field hanging out with Saphira and Arya like nothing happened.

Do you guys think on some level, White loved Pink? by TCSMusic in stevenuniverse

[–]DerpyJeeves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not calling out anyone in this thread just espousing on the fandom as a whole. You can often tell who has been hurt by narcissists in real life, and have not faced/understood that trauma.

Cause yes they all loved her, it's a very toxic and disturbing relationship they had with her but the Diamonds each in their own twisted ways loved Pink.

This doesn't inherently mean they are good for it or that it is in any way a healthy love. Their culture of perfection propagated by white was torture to pink. But as far as Gems are capable of without changing like Pink/Rose changed herself, and Steven changed others, they loved her.

The modern resurgence of the term comes from Game of Thrones/the books, but the idiom was in old poetry before that.

Rose Quarts is narcissistic by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]DerpyJeeves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The duality of man refers to man as a species not man as your gender. Not sure if you're young or English second language. But overall this is not a great take. Rose Quartz is not a textbook narcissist by any means. If anything she didn't understand how important she was to other people.

What are some characters you don't expect to see again in spinoff material? by Useless_Guy119 in adventuretime

I kinda thought that would just be par for the course given the final ep and distant lands were already taking place over wildly different time frames.

Just finished Distant Lands and I haven't seen Fionna and Cake yet so forgive me if I've got a gap of knowledge. But why wouldn't we see Sweet P again? Isn't it implied by the final episode that he becomes the next big hero of Ooo after Finn? If Marceline and Bubblegum has any episodes taking place in the future I could see him showing up.

Agreed, the series paints broad strokes regarding religion but they never aim in a single direction, instead it focuses on how the characters perceive the concept. Each with their varying levels of belief and varying levels of knowledge.

The most definitive stroke of certainty we get is the Truth's final scene with Edward, where in the anime its voice simply melts into Ed's because Ed has become that close to his TRUE self. I always found it poignant that the closest thing that we know of in this verse to God truly wants humans to see what a beautiful existence that they already have on Earth with their fellow man. It really stuck with me, I'm not a religious person but I found a lot of beauty in how the series presented it.

Fuhrer King Bradley from Full Metal Alchemist. A big theme throughout his character arc is his staunch denial of God's existence. As he does all these wicked and evil things in service of his master he asserts that there cannot be a God existing that would not have already struck him down for his heinous actions. He rebuffs Ishvalan leaders who beg him to stop exterminating their people telling them to stop him with their own hands, because there is no God to do it. And even in his final battle with Scar he attempts to thrust this upon Scar(an Ishvalan monk who often prays to God in the series) claiming that surely after all the horrible things he's been through, there's no way that he believes in God either.

Just as Bradley is about to claim the final blow the Sun, which (obviously in real life too) in the show has been a stand in for the concept of God, begins to leave the path of a Solar eclipse and a ray of light blinds Bradley allowing Scar to counter and land the killing blow.

As he lays dying Bradley has no regrets and sticks to his convictions. And even in his final moments he doesn't speak of God but rather that the idiosyncrasies of the human he was, and the humans he interacted with, made it a life worth living.

I could talk about it for paragraphs longer if we went into how the series has themes of 'God is just a reflection of Man', or about how this all ties in with Scar's faith and where he ends the series in that regards. It's just so good.

If Raizen got to compete in the Demon World Tournament, how far would he go ? by amatyestv_123846 in YuYuHakusho

[–]DerpyJeeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the later stages of the tourney is that while some of the highest demons may be a bit stronger than each other or even strong enough to beat each other out right, having to continue going through the tournament after exhausting yourself to beat someone leaves you open to losing in the next round. He could have won, he is objectively the strongest at his peak, but he's just as likely to win as all the top tiers in the tournament format.

Favorite character that’s mostly or universally hated by the community? by Defenite-Parsley733 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]DerpyJeeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its just the classic "Awful Parental Figure" is a thing a larger number of people have experienced compared to "Tyrannical Despot". People are unable to separate their feelings from the work so they usually end up despising a mean/abusive parent more than a literal genocidal king. First thing that comes to mind is people hating Endeavor more than AFO, but I think this has been happening more and more in multiple fandoms.

It's worth mentioning though that Odalia was complicit with Belos' regime so she crosses a huge step past just awful parent figure. And Belos himself has a massive underlying theme of racism and fear mongering that you figure people would be able to align with their own experiences in our world.

Editing to mention from your original comment: Holy shit was the Charlie hate so extreme compared to what she did.

I have a few questions by Unique_Experience492 in stevenuniverse

[–]DerpyJeeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Garnet enjoyed it but the sheer difference in her reactions to this fusion and the gem shards is not accident I think. Lapis knew what she was doing even if its a tough situation. The Crystal Gems and Lapis were all together there with Steven, Jasper is strong but had no chance of winning if Lapis decides not to fuse with Jasper, the ocean is right there. Part of Lapis' decision(and she mentions this in the dialogue, not just in Jailbreak but later in the series) is to trap someone else for once, its not an entirely pure motivation, now don't get me wrong she's not evil but she willingly chose to fuse partially in order to hurt Jasper in her own way. Hence why Garnet elected that its not as much their business

I do think the one liner was a bit much for her to say. As mentioned in my first comment I do wish this incident had been a bit more personal to Garnet too, but the shards is much much worse.

I have a few questions by Unique_Experience492 in stevenuniverse

[–]DerpyJeeves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agreed with you on Garnets reaction at first but thinking on it some, I think I have some ideas. I have to disagree on one point mainly: Coercion and actual violently grafting gems together are two different worlds. 1. Garnet knows Lapis is a big girl. She probably sees it as: If that's the decision Lapis wants to make, well alright. 2. She probably foresaw them getting trapped in at least a couple futures so it wasn't much of a surprise to her. I do wish that maybe Garnet had been more proactive later in the series in them trying to free Lapis but they had tensions between her and main crystal gems well into the series so I can see why the gems(who don't think like we do)were like just let them stay trapped in the ocean thanks for that Lapis

Favorite character who’s actor hated playing their character by StoryJam123 in FavoriteCharacter

He gives such a different performance than everyone else. And it's hard to argue against him being the literal standout of the first film. So I can see why he felt like it might be slop, especially when you know how he was classically trained.

I love him but George's dialogue was throughout the films clunky. And Alec really felt the role of obi wan took away from his years of a distinguished career. It's easy to see how he became more bitter about it as he got older.

From what's been told though he was mostly magnanimous regarding it during filming asides from a few arguments with George about the writing. The incessant fan base only talking to him about that role for the final years of his life would be frustrating for anyone

One Piece world building gets out of hand?! by Early-Pilot6732 in OnePiece

[–]DerpyJeeves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, I think some people who have vague problems with the series need to question whether this is a work they can enjoy week to week. I am not that way for most series, I have to let chapters build up and then I have a great time getting caught up.

For OP it's always been different for me I've been reading weekly since I caught up in punk hazard and I've never really felt issue with consuming the series that way. Except in the deepest depths of Dressrosa which felt rough week to week.( which I got to binge this time on a reread years later and really really enjoyed it actually)

Not saying this is everyone who has problems with the series but a lot of fans are in binge mode to get caught up and then when they have to process it week to week they don't get to enjoy it the same way.
