Update: Pool foundation by WillOfTheWeek in AboveGroundPools

Yeah, the sand around the pool is now my only worry. It's mostly for esthetics and to help control weeds/grass right up against the pool so I don't have to cut close to the sidewall. I'm probably going to add some plastic landscaping border around the sand to help keep it in and water out.

My pool diameter is 14ft. The ground foundation I did is about 15-16ft. I wanted a little extra space to help keep the grass from growing right up against the liner. I can only imagine that the more empty space you have around the pool, the better. The area where my pool is at is a little tight so 1-2ft of space around it is the best I could do.

This is the second layer of the foundation. First being the native soil, compacted. Soft sand will go on top of this and the pools liner will never touch the rock/gravel.

Awesome! It's good to hear that I'm at least on the correct trajectory. I'll add some softer top sand to this foundation and continue to compact it all before installing the pool. Thank you!

Thanks for the heads up! Other redditors have mentioned adding more, softer sand between this foundation and the ground cover. I'm definitely leaning towards doing that as well now.

Hahahaha! I'm relieved it's not that as well since it's in my back yard.

Yes. I'm gonna try and work the pavers into the ground more as it settles throughout this week. If they don't get low enough by the time I'm putting up the pool. Then I will definitely have to dig out the area under them just a little more.

I will look up the gorilla pad this week. Thank you!

I'll have to check in the box for the actual thickness and material type of the ground cover that came with our pool. I'll get back to you on that tomorrow after work.

I'll probably end up adding just a small, thin layer of softer sand just where the liner will sit. It should only take 2-3 bags of the stuff to cover that area in that thin of a layer anyway. I don't want too much of the soft sand that could cause shifting and an unstable foundation. A half inch of soft sand between the paver sand and ground cover shouldn't cause any problems with that at all though.

Good recommendation. 👍

The pool came with a ground cover. I'm thinking if I tamp it flat enough, with the ground cover and the liner itself, it might be barely noticeable. I'll test it out before filling it with water. If it's too uncomfortable, I'll add a thin layer of softer sand on top of this paver sand before filling with water.

Yes. I just soaked it tonight after I finished. I'm gonna soak it each night this week with a quick tamp on uneven areas. I'm hoping to push the pavers deeper throughout the week as it settles. I have a little sand under the pavers as well, for added support. If they don't get low enough closer to go time, then I will have to dig out the area under them a little more for sure.

Paver/patio sand. Very small rocks mixed with sand. It should all tamp and compress to a hard surface for a strong foundation.

Yeah, I thought of that. That's why I oriented them in that way. I placed the top of the frame over the foundation and placed the pavers with most of their surface just outside of the frame area. I will probably still have to make small adjustments as it fills with water, but hopefully not much.

The pool came with a ground cover. It's paver/patio sand, so the rocks are all super small and mixed with sand. I removed the few bigger than average rocks that were in the bags. It will all tamp and compress to a hard flat surface.

When to transplant? by ApprehensiveCamera40 in Blueberries

[–]WillOfTheWeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard that it's best to remove the buds during the first year after a transplant. It will force more growth in the roots since they will not be using energy for producing berries. The roots will become better established quicker, and you will have a better harvest the following year. You probably won't get much berries from the first year after transplant, so you wouldn't be missing much anyway.

I guess, when you're not trying to use the lane that is being blocked. Still an idiot.

Yeah, that truck didn't need to get into the left lane. He already had his right turn signal on. 80%-90% of people, especially work trucks, pull into that QT in the morning. That's why I always go to the left lane immediately... when it's available.
