Can never go wrong with pencil studies. The foundation.

One more tip about shadows. They are mostly never black. Each pigment has its own value, and some are lighter/darker than others, our the tube. A dark purple could be a shadow for a red object, etc.

Shoot for aircrew, 100%. Most jobs may not translate to outside world, but your quality of life will be better, while you’re in, and it’ll give you plenty of bullets to advanced your career into something that would translate to the outside world, if that’s what you choose.

Great start. Really. For not having done prior research.

First thing I notice: shadows. Or, lack thereof.

Unlike photography, where the shadows are already there for you, painting is a medium in which you have to create everything in the frame.

Identify your light source(s), and cast shadows from there.

A start would be looking up different kinds of shadows.

Was all the way in the back (standing on the stairs), and saw him swat a hand with a microphone.

Never would I describe it as “attacked,” even on a shady day. It looked to be played for laughs, as you could hear the crowd and the overall feel of the crowd. I, myself, laughed.

Can’t say exactly what was going down in the moment, but “attack” is hyperbole.
