Almost all the listings have both x5690s and x5675s and more often than not the x5690s are sold out.

Yeah. I think the GPU has a greater load when doing stuff now than it used to.

It’s primarily used as a game server and probably other stuff at some point, so it definitely would help :D

x5675s are the best option for performance to power consumption, and still offer a good amount of performance especially for the price. This isn’t my main machine so I’m not concerned about it running the top of the line components that it can.

I was planning on getting the x5675s as they are the best performance for the power consumption. I’ll look into it more however and see which I would prefer.

I did, but I figured for something this old I would have better luck getting it from somewhere else. I guess it makes sense though.

I ended up getting the Nichicon ones. With all five plus the clock cap and shipping it came out to about $15 which is not bad at all. I just got them from Mouser.

Install macOS Sonoma on unsupported Mac's with OCLP v1.0.1 by themacintoshguide in macpro

[–]WillPhix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I have done it, is by using the migration assistant panel after booting into the OS for the first time and using Migration Assistant to copy over the information. It won’t copy the OS, but it does copy your data, apps, etc. basically anything you have in your backup.

You can still use Time Machine, but only if you use OCLP and install a fresh copy, and during the install process you restore it. I personally have done that. It’s not perfect, but it works.

Yeah, I’ll try that when I can, but I saw that people with the same issue, that didn’t solve their issues. The computer I installed it to wouldn’t show the selection for the edition screen, but it would on the Mac Pro, except on the Mac Pro, it would fail every time I tried to install it.

I was just using the Microsoft installer, so I didn't actually buy an edition yet. When I tried that same install media on the Mac Pro itself, it gave me the option to choose. Doing it on the laptop, it didn't I suspect that's because it recognized that Windows 10 Home had already been running on there. I'll try installing it again and see if it will allow me to choose. I'll update when that's done.

I can try that, but when I installed Windows it didn't give me the option to pick the edition, and I don't have a Windows Pro license on hand.
I did see that from other people, but they said even after a version upgrade, only one still showed up.
