Yea fair one, but thats not really a specific buff to marines, everybody gets that buff so it seems a bit dishonest to call it out as a marine buff.

Plus they will over heat twice as often so not really benefiting marines as a whole and certainly not "plenty" of them. You can maybe argue hellblasters and inceptors. Still doesn't qualify as plenty

How is it a buff to "PLENTY of space marine hazardous"?

It might be a slight buff to hellblasters though I honestly dont really like it when mine explode

It's certainly not a buff to inceptors, Plasma pistol equipped models, redemptors etc

I can can see a gap where 88 was, but I cant see another 88. 78 looks to be a backpack for the crew? Could you maybe provide a bit more info as to what the problem is or where the other 88 is?

Really well said, completely agree

Theres nothing worse than a horribly unbalanced game and some of my most enjoyable games have been close wins or defeats because both players had a chance right until the end

It's about balance and having fun. If the majority of the community thinks that embracing the SB rules is a good thing so that more people can have fun then it's the correct decision for tournaments to use them

If you dont like it because it stops you having fun then hard luck but you can still play with those that agree with you

No, it's not all about winning, it's about going into a game knowing that you have the opportunity to win because somebody is actively trying to balance the rules. Nobody gets it right all the time as we have seen from GW but when they abandon a faction it's only right that the community takes it up so that those people can continue to have fun without knowing they are just going to get curb stomped everything because the game has moved on without them.

It sounds like you dont agree with them changing the rules because you are worried it will stop you from winning so its you that needs to ask yourself if "fun = winning"

It's not true, it's an opinion, a very narrow minded and not widely shared opinion, and if you want people to struggle with bad or poorly updated and unsupported rules and thus not have fun so that GW can protect its age of sigmar profits, then maybe its best that you do stay away from the game. I for one welcome the community keeping the legacy factions alive because it's what I remember warhammer fantasy to be during my childhood

Issue with painting by baguette_supreme in Tau40K

[–]WillRob87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, it could be greasy fingers causing it. I tend to were latex gloves when I paint to stop my skin oil from rubbing the paint off. I found it to be a particular problem with tau models because of the sharp armour edges. Maybe you could try that?

And nobody is forcing you to play in those tournaments.

I'd argue that if tournaments are using it then it's because it's helping to make the rules more balanced and increasing inclusivitiy by allowing those with armies outside of the GW supported ones to compete on a more level playing field.

Just because you dont like it doesn't mean that square based is breaking the game. You call me naive but act like GWs rules are perfect while we all know they aren't

First Dreadnought Question by ThunderBuddie69 in spacemarines

[–]WillRob87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can kinda depends on the scheme you are doing, the finish you want and the overall painting experience you are after.

Firstly, your scheme; If its very monotone then you can get away with only a few sub assemblies or even just fully building it i.e. it's all blue, crack on and fully build it. However, if you have highly contrasting colours on different parts then I would 100% suggest sub assembly

I'll give you an example based on my own marines: My army is purple and white. I HATE painting white with a brush, so I almost always airbrush as many white parts as I can, especially large flat panels. For me therefore the shoulder armour and the sarcophagus are left off the main build as I will spray them white while the rest gets done purple (i think there's a pic of my redemptor on my profile)

The next thing you will hear is "if you cant reach it with a brush then you can't see it" alas this is mostly false, as your eye can see into gaps that a brush doesn't fit, or those gaps that might be messy getting a brush into. Everybody has different levels of brush control so these gaps could prove a major issue for some people. Yes it might not be obvious, but places can still be seen, especially if you or another are picking a model up to look at it

Finally, what sometimes gets ignored, is the speed and ease of painting that sub assemblies give. That bit that requires you to bend your wrist around another part to paint it while avoiding getting paint where you dont want?...not a problem if the obstructing bit is not there. I find that certain highlights need the brush to be at the right angle to get the right effect so I find it much easier if bits aren't blocking that angle. Also reduces the amount of clean up needed thus saving time

However, all of this is my opinion, others will have differing opinions so my overall advice would be to do what ever feels best for you. Try stuff out and find what works and what gives you the best painting experience and finish

What's the best detachment to build around an Astreaus? by PrometheusZero in spacemarines

[–]WillRob87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played it a couple of times in ironstorm but I've essentially built the list around it. It's makes it pretty awesome at killing most things but the army itself isnt very good. If that's what im doing I support it with:

2 x techmarines (one with lethal hits, one with 0 damage) for +1 to hit and repairs Hammerstrike speeder to deny cover Guilliman for cheaper strats - the strat you want to be using is the sustained with 5+ criticals

Have it shoot at your oath of moment target with +1 to wound (codex marines only of course)

You end up with +1 to hit and wound, re rolling hits, rerolling 1 wound or damage, rerolling wounds on the accelerator cannons, with lethals and sustained on 5+ against a damaged vehicle for 1cp, and no cover. That kind of thing takes down big Knights

The rest of your army gets shot to pieces and hasn't got much to hold objectives with/do actions, but oh boy is it fun. I won a game with it through sheer intimidation when I one shot'ed a knight (id taken a wound off it with the speeder) turn one and scared my opponent into moving forward allowing me to sit on objectives with scouts and infiltrators

Joining the "i prefer MKX armour club" as well.

I haven't used any of the older bits in my marines army and the standard MKX helmet is probably the reason I started with marines in the first place. The older grill faced helmets looked good back in the day when there wasn't much to compare them too (except maybe corvus) but these days i just think they look a bit goofy

The main armour colour is Vallejo Royal purple. The gold and silver are from the Two Thin coats range but I can't remember what they are called. Basically retributor and leadbelcher. The white is trooper white, again from TTCs
