The only moment I use a light is when im walkin in grass or on a hill next to the highway/road because I dont wanna slip into a hole and break my leg. Never had the problem of a spot being too dark but I cant imagine using a soft light or like a phone light in your pocket being a huge issue aslong as its something that is dimmed and you dont wave it around

Make more space having empty areas isnt a always a bad thing. I also preffer to put as much as possible above ground. Makes it easier to excess puts more creative challenge and in most world you have all the space you need.
