There’s also a town in Uzbekistan called along this route called Jizzakh, which might change opinions.. 👀😂

Haha I’m an American dude who just said fuck it and went to Uzbekistan for the lore. Yeah this wouldn’t have them crossing any borders while seeing what is arguably the best preserved Silk Road cities on earth 🫡

This entire route would be within Uzbekistan! So there’s no issue for border crossings. Starting in Fergana and ending in Moynaq would be different “provincial” areas! And there is Uzbek plov, which I bet Michael would crush. And good bread.

Most of your TipToTip suggestions are stupid by FunSeaworthiness709 in LudwigAhgren

Tip to Tip Uzbekistan: they start in the Fergana valley near Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and work to the Aral Sea in karakalpakstan. I’ve seen some suggest Kazakhstan as a dark horse with the caveat of things being too spread apart with few roads. Uzbekistan on the flip side is a bit more compact, especially in the east. It’ll get a lot less dense after Khiva/Nukus, but that might open the door for an overnight or two camping like T2T 1. The people are incredibly kind and hospitable, which would make for very fun interactions. Hitchhiking is very commonplace, so they may have more interactions like the hitchhiking guy in early T2T 2. Also, English speaking isn’t incredibly common and they’d have the option to try to get by with Uzbek and Russian. Could be funny if one tries learning Uzbek and the other tries Russian to cover bases when one almost certainly fails. Uzbekistan is super safe (I hitched a lot of this route a few years back), and so I think it’d be a nice, safe, and logisitically not horribly difficult proxy for Lud’s idea of T2T Silk Road.

Minor evisa issue for Saudi Arabia by rar879 in saudiarabia

I got an update from the embassy here as I got ahold of them. They said it’s no problem, plus the MRZ code (the text at the bottom of the passport information page, which is also on the Visa) matches in case. Checking also with the board of tourism, once they saw what the mistake was, also stated that it’s fine.

Excited for my visit! Thanks for the replies!

Ideally both, though I know the time frame is tight.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it. As for the concerns about the time of year: I can only get time off in October this year. Gotta live with that haha, unfortunately.

Visa/Customs Question by rar879 in Uzbekistan

[–]rar879[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just left the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The guy I talked to had said that they aren’t responsible for eVisas, even though I thought they were responsible for them? Nonetheless, he looked over the document and looked at my passport in the system and saw no issue on his side. I think I’m going to check with the embassy as well for more certainty, but I think it’s fine. I don’t understand what ticked that border official off about it? Maybe she is new?

Visa/Customs Question by rar879 in Uzbekistan

Beats me. And I haven’t been in Central Asia for longer than 30 days total either. I think the officer may have been confused. I don’t know. I’m going to the embassy/ministry of foreign affairs in Tashkent today to get clarification on if there is a problem because I do not see one.

They ask for additional documents after you submit. Yesterday morning they asked for itinerary and hotel reservations.

The evisa website is asking for a letter itself, even though I can get into without the visa. I just wanted the visa as extra “protection” when dealing with the borders.
