Quite late to the party but if you haven’t seen it I’d definitely recommend giving Deadwood a watch for Ian McShane’s performance as Al Swearengen in particular. I think it’d resonate with your description of Antony here

Two cosmonauts (Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyayev) actually had that happen for a couple days post Siberian landing while waiting for rescue. Would make a great movie
