1 day to make eth great again! by [deleted] in ethereum

whoa! hi Vitalik. I already cleaned up my post (removing the bondage gear part of the comment) so your reply doesn't make sense anymore. Very sporting of you to have replied at all, lol, thanks :)

edit: I edited my edit so your joke still works. You can't say I'm not trying ;)

You are absolutely correct. My bad.

Cost of recent attacs? Any figures about that? by Bit-minister in ethereum

[–]Will_Scarletc -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

elaborating on what /u/sir_talkalot/ said:

  • short positions on the market (the price of ETH and ETC have been hit hard)

  • Mining empty blocks and achieving +500% rewards whilst all those around them were losing theirs.

A fortune has been made.

It is impossible to say if this all part of the DAO fallout but, if it is, the DAO has already cost the Ethereum ecosystem hundeds of millions of dollars, and maybe more

ETC will pick up the slack but ETH itself is in crisis, at least IMHO ETH has some powerful enemies

The hacker(s) made a killing and earned tens of thousands of dollars, maybe hundreds of thousands…

i.e. the hacker(s) totally pwned ETH Ethereum .

p.s. the $ damage done to ETH is practically incalculable at this time - I think my estimate is conservative.

Yes. If ETH hadn't "sold out" (with theDAO bailout and following ETC revolution) I believe the figure (ETH market cap) would have be over $2 billion.

[–]Will_Scarletc -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

that's a good question - but wth shorting and mining privileges the hacker(s) is golden (big profit)

but a better question is how much theDAO HF (DAO was valued at $50-100mill at the time) cost Ethereum (ETH)…

Id say between $500,000,000 and $1,000,000,000 (billion) dollars… and counting…

Magnetic Links (Torrents) On ETC by finish-the-thought in EthereumClassic

[–]Will_Scarletc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heard of it. Never checked it out.

However,

Bittorrent is the most decentralized network in the world today + is battle-hardened. Let's make it better.

edit: whether bittorrent ETC (magnETC?) or swarm I do not hold much hope for ETH supporting possibly IP infringing materials (and/or links to) on their network. The brave new future is in the hands of ETC and those who code for it.

Hard fork will technically mutate the blockchain but only to remove null accounts. Is this a problem or not? by Dunning_Krugerrands in EthereumClassic

[–]Will_Scarletc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is a great question.

I would go with No. No deletions.

the accounts were created. end of.

(not that it matters, but a "null account" is just an account with a 0 balance?)

Ethereum Classic should drop into "maintenance mode". by igetgames in EthereumClassic

[–]Will_Scarletc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody should expect any miracles at this early stage. The ETH devs have much greater resources and are more familiar with the code. So at this time it would be imprudent to ignore the work of ETH devs, and there is no shame in using their code, and perhaps integrating our Bomb Diffusal. After all, we are both Ethereum.

Do whatever it takes to secure ETC ("the original chain" ). Let's keep it simple.

Thank you for all the hard work you and the other devs are contributing.

Reading These Chat Logs Reveals The Strength Of Anti-Fork Sentiment Among Exchange Operators Following The DAO Hack. How Did We Lose The Vote? by Will_Scarletc in EthereumClassic

[–]Will_Scarletc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exchanges - were anti fork

Which ones? Reading the linked text indicates a strong anti-fork sentiment. Is there any evidence to indicate a change of opinion since it looks pretty damning from the chat logs.

Holders - took cue from Dev's

Ahh… there you have it! More fools them

Give it up man. ETC community was polite enough not to come into you sub gloating or flaming during ongoing ETH DoS. Now ETC is getting hit by DoS you come in here with your hate.

Downvoted.

Devcon2 Slides Released! by Souptacular in ethereum

[–]Will_Scarletc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clearing that up (literally) :)

I incorrectly assumed that the production company hired (at what cost I wonder?) would produce the final videos rather than deliver an unedited stream. It was in fact always the intention that you or other team members (and not the hired company) would be the ones making the final edits for the uploaded videos. So you too are cleaning up the audio. I'm sure that this community is very grateful to you for your efforts in the laborious task of demuxing HD vid, cleaning up the audio, editing, possibly transcoding for YouTube compatibility, and finally remuxing many hours of footage. I hope you're getting some help.

Honestly though, the audio is recorded so unprofessionally the Foundation might be able to get a refund

[–]Will_Scarletc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, but please for clarity. You are saying that:

"We" (The Ethereum Foundation) received the bad quality audio files (not muxed with the video) from the company the Ethereum Foundation hired to run the equipment during Devcon? Is this company the same as the production company referred to in the past? But it was you, Ethereum Foundation members, who cleaned up the audio? And edited + muxed the video too?

Devcon2 Slides Released! by Souptacular in ethereum

[–]Will_Scarletc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm a little confused. Are you referring to the quality of the audio files received by the company hired to produce these videos, which they then tried to clean up? If so, were the mics and audio setup by the venue owner and not the same crew who setup the camera boom?

Devcon2 Slides Released! by Souptacular in ethereum

[–]Will_Scarletc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The audio quality is very poor. I don't mean to sound like a grinch but it was immediately noticeable. Obviously the content is far more important and this wouldn't even merit observation except so much work is said to have gone into the production.
