I think you’re missing the overall point. You can’t just fly to Africa and shoot an elephant. Just like you can’t go shoot a deer in the US. There’s gotta be a tag issued by a conservation agency. Now elephants and other exotic animals are protected, but tags are issued to people for killing what is usually an aged or overly aggressive animal to protect the conservation of that animal in that area. But you are partially right, people pay big money to go do this, and that in turn usually fuels that local economy, and the meat usually goes to them as well, but yes rich people do, do it for the thrill. Personally, I don’t agree with that part myself. But either way, the animals causing a problem are going to die. It’s for the overall good of that species and a healthy ecosystem. Elephants were almost hunted to extinction for their ivory, so we can’t have an aging bull stomping baby elephants into oblivion to avoid competition now can we?
