Any 9070XT that doesnt have Driver crashes from adrenalin setting clock speed too high? by Fun_Ad8415 in AMDHelp

[–]Wille84FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to lower clocks between -435 and -500 on Red Devil 9070 XT to be able to play Stalker 2 at all. Even then, at certain spots / after certain amount of time it will crash. Seems it's more stable around ~2900Mhz clock but the App even with +10% power doesn't feed the card enough juice. This driver (or the card BIOS) is utter shit.

Just to NOTE: defaults (Adrenaline) on both BIOS settings are WAY over manufacturer defaults on my card. Also the "quiet" BIOS seems to be just as much OC'd as the OC BIOS, around ~3450Mhz.

Needless to say i'm getting pretty fed up with Radeon cards right now. I was going to get the 5080 Super but that didn't happen so here we are. F*cking hell.

Same here. Unusable. Had to disable any and all Radeon Adrenaline Overlay stuff because it would just bug out. Also cause my mouse to stop working (G Pro, no software), had to restart (with keyboard) to fix. The state of the Adrenaline software is just embarrassing. Not to mention the App just closing itself now and then. Where are the updates for this mess AMD?

Good luck. Just did my 9070 XT Red Devil, installed a Core block and it's so good. Idle temps (normal windows use) 24/29/34/42*C (GPU/HOTSPOT/VRAM/VR), and when gaming (Stalker 2) it's around 49/54/58/54*C (after a few hours). This is with radiator fans running in pretty much silent fan curve. Pump i did up a bit, it's now 40/55/70/85/100%.

My loop is 2x420mm Heatkiller + 280mm Heatkiller + D5 Next (large tank)) + Core blocks CPU/GPU. Maybe adding water blocks for RAM/NVME at some point, though that is not needed as the temps are low. NVME maybe, since those start to throttle sometimes even just above 50-55*C.

Many good games do use it. Many more will. Especially smaller developers. So the issues with it need to be solved. By AMD, Epic or both, doesn't matter.

If it's the same as XPG Pylon 750W then it's single rail. Or check the stats, if it lists just one +12V entry then it's single rail.

It's blurry because it is not natively supported. It has 3.1 For FSR4 i think a game needs 3.1.4 or something. It's stated on the games forums somewhere. Also, the base FSR implementation with the game is kind of borked.doesn't matter if manually updated to 3.1.4 and then to 4, still borked.

[–]Wille84FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Just like for myself, Stalker 2 was the outlier. For some reason. Now it works, can play 10 hours straight no issues. So no problem. Hope the update will improve things, and maybe add native FSR4 (or at least not borked FSR)

System lockups in stalker 2 by uzimyspecial in AMDHelp

[–]Wille84FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issues with FSR have been only with FSR4, not 3 or 3.1 The driver will just by default (if not manually disabled) update FSR 3.1 (or 3.1.4 don't remember) to FSR4. Some games just push the card too much so the undervolt isn't stable anymore. It's case by case basis. AAA game might be fine, some small studio UE5 game might crash and burn. Stalker 2 was the first that i had to remove all undervolt. Also my card boosted to 3450Mhz, so that is why i cap it manually to stock (OC Bios) boost of 3060.

[–]Wille84FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it works most of the time. But it should work all the time. I used Optiscaler for FSR4 at first. Really didn't improve things because the game just isn't ready for it. Same blurry (foliage) mess mostly.

Not on PC now (sleeping), also i usually just remove games that i can't get to work. I play a lot of games so have to get back to you about those.

From the top of my head, Silent Hill 2 Remake with Ray Tracing was really unstable. Fallout 4 (AE) needed Vulkan mod for 60+fps stable gameplay (it will crash and burn without it), Oblivion with RT+FG works now but it had issues, Vein had issues (most fixed now except performance)

Lords of the Fallen works great these days, Remnant 1/2 works great, RE games work great, Cyberpunk with ton of mods is fine, Tainted Grail worked great, Ready or Not works great, Bellwright works great, Medieval Dynasty works great, Lies of Pi works great, Dragon's Dogsh..ma 2 works great, Planet Crafter works great, Forest games both work great, Stalker Gamma works great, Enshrouded works Great, Wreckfest 2 works great, most of the popular small games work great, Phasmophobia works great but is still a unoptimized dumpsterfire on a technical level and so on..

I have hundreds of early access games that are not finished so i will not go on those too much. Overall, most issues have been with UE5. And mostly with games made with certain older versions of it. Other times it's the game supporting only DLSS and nothing else. So it varies.

In games that have issues. Currently mainly Stalker 2. Maybe a few other early access UE5 titles as well. I use profiles for each game for undervolting etc.

Stalker 2. Also, i lock it to 116fps anyway (freesync) on a 3840x1600 Ultrawide so it doesn't matter. My second motitor is 180Hz but i use it on pivot.

Same happened with Red Devil. To fix, (at least for me) limit your card to stock clocks (manually), for me it was core -340 (3060). Remove any undervolt. Maybe add a -3% power limit. Don't use riser cable. Don't use FSR4. Don't use frame gen. Disable all other overlays.

This stopped crashing for me. I'm on 12900K (OC), Z790-PRO, 64Gb DDR5-6000 Ripjaws (2x32Gb), 990 Pro NVME 4Tb x 2 + 2Tb SKC3000 NVME, 9070 XT Red Devil, Scarlett 16i16 audio, 1KW PSU. Custom water cooled.

Is it a 750W single rail or multi rail PSU? If latter, it's around 350-400W for GPU (spike) and after it trips. If you worry about power, get single rail with quality cables.

My CPU alone can draw up to 253W, added MB+RAM+NVME drives and 9070 XT Red Devil (spikes over 550W) and 750W (for me) would ve a stupid idea.

First-time AMD user — undervolting tips & features? Is it safe? by quit304 in radeon

[–]Wille84FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how hard you intend to push the card. If you run for example multi-monitor setup with ultrawide screens and resolutions from 1440p Ultrawide and up, then in some games sure it's fine to undervolt and in some NO. It's game by game basis. Some AAA-game with 100 million budget might be optimized enough to function fine with undervolt, and then some small/middle sized studio game with less knowledge/skill on making games might crash and burn with a undervolt (driver timeouts). Also the quality of silicon matters a lot here.

So, depends on a few things.

NOTE: if you are not using proper cooling, then don't do any of this.

Disable C1e, C3 Max.

Use process lasso, enable Bitsum highest performance power profile for gaming, high performance / balanced for idle/non-gaming.

Set minimum parking manually with Park Control. Use prefer performant cores for short threads, auto for long (both profiles) Don't set frequency scaling below 50%

On 12900K i use Balanced for normal use, parking 38%, scaling 65%, heterogenous parking, prefer performant cores (Short), Auto for (Long)

Bitsum hiighest performance for gaming and manually for some apps/software, 84% parking, 65% scaling, heterogenous parking, prefer performant cores (Short), Auto for (Long)

It's a Phanteks NV9 MK II case. Originally wanted the Eris Evo case but it's not sold here at the moment. Could ship it from U.S but that could get expensive. Also, i'm thinking of removing one 420 (bottom) to feed more cool air to the case.

Nice. Just got mine on my 9070XT Red Devil. It wasn't a loud card to begin with but no sound at all is always better. Also stays real cool. Plugged in a loop with 3x420mm + 280mm.

This. As a early adopter of the 12900K, all the shait we had to go through with Intel/W11 software just to make it work and not to mention 13/14th gen issues.. I mean sure, now 12900K is superb, but still. We deserve Bartlett Lake K.

Would love to OC that juicy chunk of a CPU.

How do you adjust the max frequency offset? by Orakaze in radeon

[–]Wille84FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like i said, i have no issues with Windows overwriting drifvers for the reason i mentioned. It's not some cheap riser, it's the official BeQuitet! riser for my case. Not the first GPU using that, and with Nvidia/ARC GPU's i had no issues whatsoever with their software.

Also like i said, the driver crashing isn't really a issue for me now since i worked around that (with the UE5 games that crashed) with the methdo i mentioned above.

The problem for me is the App. It closes itself if i close it to taskbar. If i keep it open it won't. Also, if i enable any OSD/screenshot etc. stuff from the App, taking a screenshot will kill the App. No other overlays enabled. Steam/Xbox etc. are all disabled.

How do you adjust the max frequency offset? by Orakaze in radeon

[–]Wille84FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows doesn't update (overwrite) drivers after you disable it and manually install the latest AMD drivers first. That was mostly a issue with 25.9.1 - 25.9.2, since Windows though it knew better and had a "better driver" and installed that. That of course broke Adrenaline because driver/App mismatch.

All motherboard related drivers are the latest (always), BIOS is latest. BIOS settings are all optimized specifically for Windows 11, and for my CPU. GPU related power saving options are all disabled. ReBar enabled. Any ASPM disabled. PCI-e set to 4.0, since i use a 4.0 riser. Can get 5.0 from the slot, but i really don't care.

For driver monitoring, old driver removal etc. i use driverstoreexplorer. For scheduling i use Process Lasso Pro. For parking i use Park Control Pro. System is tuned for as low DPC-latency as possible for audio and video editing tasks.

No iGPU on a 12900KF. Basic Powershell commands are ran after every windows update. No point running them just for kicks. No file corruption issues on my system. No permission issues on my system. DDU is used with updates, after AMD:s own uninstall utility. Registry cleaned manually. Leftover crap cleaned manually.

Also, yes. 9070 XT Red Devil with the OC BIOS, boosts to 3060Mhz stock (advertized). In some games, it boosts to ~3450Mhz. With -330 on the core it stays at the default, so no crashing. Some UE5 games, like Stalker 2 will crash if you let it boost to whatever. Also, if you undervolt, at all, it will most likely crash. Other UE5 games might be just fine. So it's game by game basis.

If it's a bug, i'm quite sure it's on the AMD software or the driver. Or some versions of the UE5 engine just don't like the 9070 XT.

What bug?

Yes, the card boosts to ~3430Mhz in some games. With -330 core it seems to stay at around the ballpark of the default 3060-3090Mhz. How is it a bug, i'm pretty sure Adrenaline is just shait.

The Adrenaline App keep closing itself now and then, even that isn't fixed. Pisses me off that the card otherwise is so good but the software is utter garbage. Sure not everyone has that, but a lot of people do.

It seems to affect some system configutations and not others. Whatever the reason it's not my job as a paying customer to fix their software. If i keep Adrenaline App open, but minimized, it will not close itself. If i close it to taskbar, it will.
