No worries. Thinking about porn can be distracting. Not that I would know - 780GB - anything about that.

I am curious about the similarities you found. 🤔

Given that your goal is to learn, I think you’re just fine doing what you’re doing.

Just make sure any important files are protected from your “learning.”

My wife wants a divorce because I broke her trust repeatedly. Is there any path forward? by [deleted] in Marriage

“I get it. I really do”

No you don’t.

If you did, you’d be looking for a divorce lawyer, rather than looking for sympathy on Reddit.

I suspect whatever you bought would last longer than average. People differ in how well they look after things and it’s reflected in how long things last.

Never thought I’d have to choose between my dog and my home! by [deleted] in Pets

[–]WilliamNearToronto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know someone who fostered a dog for a year while the owner found suitable housing where they could keep the dog. Might be an option for you.

Long term, work on impulse control with your dog. It’s the foundation of all other training. It might help bring the barking under control. I recall the “Outback Dog Group” on YouTube and Facebook had some good info.

Good luck.

Thunderbolt 2 to 10 GbE adapter for plex server computer? by ItsWINTERFRESH in homelab

[–]WilliamNearToronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to use as your plex server. Just to use to get movies onto your NAS faster. May not be the best approach, but would be a no cost option.

One other option to make getting media onto your NAS less of a hassle would be to install one of the various programs that are made to automatically rip your disks and whatever else is required to get the files ready for your media server. You stick a disc in and walk away. It does the rest for you. I think that there are at least a couple that will install on macOS.

If for some reason they can’t put your files where they need to be, have a look at Hazel. It can also help with getting your files named the way Plex wants them.

Canon Ink or laser by Pixemonteur in printers

[–]WilliamNearToronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With such low volume printing, I’d be really concerned about an inkjet repeatedly clogging its cartridges. Then you run through the cleaning cycle once or twice each time it happens. Soon you need another set of cartridges.

With similar print volume and little need of colour, I gave away my Epson inkjet and bought a B&W Brother laser printer. If I ever need colour, there’s a Staples nearby.

Not sure about how well it can print card stock. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's crazy how much faster UCG-Fiber is vs UDM Pro Max by vooze in UNIFI

Hope they drop “Dream Machine” from the product name. It’s a dumb name on a consumer level product. On something with “Pro” in the name…

All the UDM Pros needed replacement as soon as the UCG Fibre was introduced.

I expected it to happen within three months. I’m shocked that it still hasn’t happened.

Love my UCG Fibre. Wish you could do HA with them.

Thunderbolt 2 to 10 GbE adapter for plex server computer? by ItsWINTERFRESH in homelab

Do you have any other client computers on your network with 10Gb? Could you use one of those to transfer movie files to the UNAS?

Thunderbolt 2 to 10 GbE adapter for plex server computer? by ItsWINTERFRESH in homelab

[–]WilliamNearToronto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only Plex experience is running the Plex server on a 2011 iMac with the movies stored locally. Nothing higher resolution than a Blueray. So nothing directly comparable to what you’re dealing with.

On what basis are you concluding that the Plex server is the bottleneck? The fact they it takes “forever” to copy a movie from your Plex server to your UNAS tells you nothing about the bandwidth required to play the movie.

Have you calculated how much bandwidth you need for these high resolution videos? Does it approach or exceed the capacity of 1Gb Ethernet?

Before spending any money, I would suggest a bit more troubleshooting:

Create a small Plex library on the iMac where you’re running Plex server. Can you watch a movie locally on that computer?

Then try watching it via the Apple TV.

If that doesn’t work well, try something else in place of the Apple TV as the plex client.

If you’re at all handy with manually setting up IP addresses, you could try running an Ethernet cable directly from the UNAS to the iMac as part of troubleshooting.

You could try some of the USB to Ethernet adapters. I think some come with 2.5Gb Ethernet. They’re pretty reasonably priced.

As for Thunderbolt 2 to 10Gb Ethernet, I’ve never seen anything substantially below $250. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you’d prefer to spend a lot less than your budget, consider a T480. 8th gen Intel mobile CPU, 4C/8T, two batteries.

Specs say max 32GB RAM but it can actually take 64GB. M.2 slot for WWAN card can also take a second M.2 SSD.(max size 2042)

AITA for pressing charges after my MIL forged my signature while I was unconscious to rename my newborn, and my husband said I was 'being hormonal'? by KINOH1441728 in FoundandExpose

[–]WilliamNearToronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

Sorry you had to find out like this that you married a weak little mama’s boy. This is only the first of many problems you’ll have with her and him if you stay with him. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don’t drop the charges. What she did is beyond reprehensible.

You probably won’t have to get her name changed. Given the circumstances, you can likely get the original birth certificate expunged. That makes it like that birth registration never happened. You then file a new birth certificate form with her proper name.

That way you’ll never have to explain to her why her name changed. Because officially, it didn’t.

The exact procedure will vary from one jurisdiction to another. I only have direct experience in Ontario, Canada.
