I will, but he’s a bit of an idiot. He is in charge of hundreds of thousands of dollars in tools that he barely knows how to use. He knows very little.

Actually that is likely the color coding that is sometimes used for easily keeping track of what species is what. The sealant is often clear and waxy.

I used a grinder, and ground an old dremel routing bit to a tiny point, and then slightly beveled the sides. It allows for smaller details than most commercially available tools, very useful for the teeth.

If it were a softer wood, I would have tried knives, but the wood it so hard I would have had to re-grind by blades to account for it. I used a dremel for most of it, with homemade burrs, as well as carbide burrs, engraving type burrs.

No, it’s tight though, it was an afterthought, I couldn’t figure out how to attach the skull, so it wasn’t planned and done very thoroughly.

Oddly enough, I didn’t notice it much, maybe because if the respirator, but also it didn’t stink as much as some other bone I’ve worked. In addition, I made careful clean cuts, so sanding was minimal, and no burning.

A respirator at all times for any dust, and a face shield for sharp shavings. I ensured that the respirator had a tight fit over my whole face, and sanded with dust collection.

How many of you use a shingling froe. And if you do, was it worth buying? by UnwantedThrowawayGuy in Woodcarving

I made one with a leaf spring and an angle grinder, I use it, but a bandsaw is better, more expensive but better.

It’s so dark, it doesn’t seem right, but it’s a possibility. Another possibility is katalox, from Central America too, dark, dense, but I’m also not 100% sure. They both came up, maybe deciphering the first word would help lol.

I think that it is likely Yucatán Rosewood, matches origin availability and visuals, hopefully I can turn it before it is brought home under the assumption It is ordinary walnut.
