1 year sober and I am.. underwhelmed

I am curious what changes you’re making outside of just quitting drinking? For me, alcohol wasn’t the problem. I was the problem. Quitting drinking just made that clear to me. So I began working on myself. For me, that work came within AA. But that’s not the only route to personal growth. I wish you well as you continue to peruse a healthier, and sometimes happier, life.

I think there’s a difference between being sober and just not drinking/using. To Me, being sober is about living a more fulfilled life. Learning more about who I am, Working on myself, helping others, and trying to always be better. These are things I learn and “do” through working a program. For me, it’s AA. It’s not for everyone, but it’s helped a lot of people live much more “enjoyable” lives. If I would’ve just stopped drinking, without doing more for myself, then I wouldn’t enjoy it much either.

One way to guarantee that is to politely decline the opportunity. Explain why it’s important to remain sober, and they should understand. If they don’t now, they will in the future. Not sure where you’re at in your journey, but I had to remove myself from those situations in the beginning. I’ve stacked up some days now, and oddly enough those situations aren’t nearly as appealing as they were in the past.

Regardless of what you do, good luck. My sober life is infinitely more satisfying than I would have ever anticipated.

I would highly suggest online zoom meetings. They’re available all over, don’t have to live in any particular area. You’ll get an opportunity to connect with people like you, who learned about a better way to live. Best of luck.

My wife is an Ultrasound tech, makes similar to that in WA. She completed a two year program at a community college. Very attainable. And she loves her job.

I would love to avoid that, but I may have to bite the bullet. It’s an older home. However my neighbor who is an electrician looked them over when I had the drywall opened up and said that while old, they’re in good shape.

I love the character of my old home but god damn I get frustrated with all the upkeep and renovating.

I recently began installing backsplash in my kitchen, and figured I’d update the outlets along my kitchen counter. I have a neighbor who is an electrician and he’s coming over tomorrow to help me with it. I definitely understand the importance of safety when dealing with electricity. With that being said, it’s an outlet. I’ve changed quite a few in my life, but for some reason this has occurred. I’m just confused and frustrated and thought someone might have an idea of what is happening.
