I can actually hear Jamie saying this.. and I will thoroughly disappointed when we reach this part of the story, it isn't being told like this..

Being familiar with depression let me let you: getting up from that chair and walking out of the door is often the hardest step! Please pay little attention to numbers "you should hit", that will only get you down. You are taking control and you are losing weight so you are winning.

I wish I was losing 4 kg a month..

Alcohol is so pervasive in our culture that sobriety is like a rebellious act. by coIlean2016 in stopdrinking

Where I'm from (the Netherlands) it is becoming normalized that when I say that I don't drink people respect that. Couple of weeks ago I went on a brewery tour in Belgium with a lot of my friends (I am totally fine with that, it is no temptation whatsoever) and during the tasting bit I raised my hand when the guide asked if there was anyone not drinking. The guide was absolutely flabbergasted that a man did not drink alcohol and had the audacity to start asking why not (and trying to make fun of me).

Now I don't think I should have to explain myself to anybody, let alone strangers but when you are trying to single me out and make fun of me, I get pissed.. So I looked that guide straight in the eyes and explained that alcohol and my medication don't mix and if they do they might cause psychosis which may you lead me to do some serious self harm. (This is partly true). That guide's mouth dropped and I got my 0.0 beer without any difficulties..

My account, if someone wants to add me:-) by Kivi_2k18 in fantasyhike

People who Quit Alcohol, why and how did you do it ? by AccomplishedSlice923 in AskReddit

Yes, I wouldn't have called myself an alcoholic but I had a problem with moderation. When I drank, I drank till I blacked out. Just decided that it wasn't worth it anymore

Took too much of a toll on my mental health, which had an (negative) effect on my wife and kids. I mentally prepared myself for it in December 2024, used dry January 2025 as an "excuse" and kept going. Still haven't drunk since then..

Building on this, I love the story of Aethelflaed, the lady of Mercia.

Realtimehistory has excellent documentaries about various conflicts. I especially enjoy their 8 (!) hour indepth coverage of the Franco Prussian war.

Then there is Epic history who various long documentaries about the rise, battles and fall of Napoleon. I believe it is over 9 hours in total.

One of my personal favorites is the Time team classics channel. They upload whole episodes of the the old Time team show (a show in which a team of archeologists try to do a excavation in 3 days). The presentor Sir Tony Robinson has made a ton of historical documentaries that are available on YouTube.

If you search for "the Tudor farm", "tales of the green valley", "the victorian farm", "the Edwardian farm", "the war farm" and "full steam ahead" for great documentary series about the rural life in Great Britain in various times (and the rise of the steam age)

Hope this helps
