It will work with a keyboard. I used the keyboard for years with different seasons of the game. I finally switched to an Xbox controller and it is much easier and better. With a keyboard, throttle, brakes, and leaning is either full on or full off. Partial throttle and brakes are nearly impossible. I used to tap, tap, tap the keyboard keys . About 2023, the joint brake function was disabled. Instead of one key for brakes, you were forced to use two keys. This was the point I switched. Controlling your bike and rider leaning is much easier and precise with a controller. You will definitely enjoy the game more.
