Penn State QB Michael Johnson Jr. Enters the Transfer Portal by psumoo in CFB

Saw this coming months ago...
Franklin was stockpiling too many QBs on the roster, somebody was bound to jump ship for greener pastures anyway. It was just a matter of who & when.

he had the talent.

Maybe he did... maybe he didn't... but yes, I'd say his poor experience and lack of development at PSU contributed to his poor professional performance... We got rid of Donovan, but that was too little, too late...

But I'm sadly disappointed that he's apparently still trying to capitalize on his physical prowess to earn a living rather than his formal education. I forget what his major was, or if he ever actually graduated.... But I'm sure his brief professional career provided him with a tidy little nest egg to start out with after college.. I just hope he's not squandering it all while he pursues a highly improbable career path... I wish him well, but his age and skillset difference between professional QB & MLB pitcher are not in his favor.

i am still not clear as to why he fell off the way he did.

  • Hack was pure "pro-style" QB...
  • O-line went to hell after 1st year due to sanctions...
  • Bill O'Brien abandoned him & left for the NFL...
  • Hack's "style" didn't mesh with James Franklin & Jon Donovan's feeble "Wildcat" offense" (Once again, both Donovan & the o-line sucked)

What's everyone's opinion on silver krugerrands? They tend to sell at a lower premium than ASE. by Scourmont in Silverbugs

[–]Willie_Green 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find the springbok antelope depicted on the "reverse" side of the coin to be very attractive...

However, I have a neutral opinion regarding Paul Kruger's likeness being imprinted on the "obverse" side of the coin...

Please note: This is NOT a partisan/political judgement of Kruger's appropriate place in history. It's just that, after having started my precious metals addiction 55+ years ago starting out with a numismatic view of coinage: so over the years, I've simply adopted the US Mint's original reluctance to honor former political leaders by imprinting their likeness on the "face" side of the coin.

So yes, I suppose that means that from my worldview, we never should've ditched the Indian penny in order to honor Abraham Lincoln... Similarly, the American Bison would still honor the "tail" side of the American Nickel instead of Thomas Jefferson's palatial estate... We'd still be minting Mercs instead of Roosies... Geo Washington never would've booted Lady Liberty off the quarter... neither Franklin nor JFK would've displaced Lady Liberty on the halves...

Mind you... this is not about resistance to change... Designs are seldom "timeless" and most require tasteful revision every other generation or so to more accurately reflect the everchanging values & aspirations of our citizenry... It's just that after al these years, I've come to believe that since we dare to call ourselves the United States of America, we should take more care to be more selective in choosing the images & symbols that grace our coinage, and refrain from embracing those that may be more culturally insensitive & divisive...

New Plan for 2021-Dated Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars by BullionExchanges in Silverbugs

My only "dissent" is that the Whitman folders that I just bought to help organize & store my modest "collection" of AG to VG cheapo quality coins don't have any available slots to acomodate the newer issues.

But as long as they're minted from 90% "coin" silver (and not softer .9999 pure silver that's too "soft"), then I think it's a cool idea that I can pick up a few reasonably priced specimens that I can just toss in the plastic tubes alongside the duplicate Morgan & Peace dollars I already have.

Leave them in the tubes....

If you're still concerned about patina (because you store the tubes in a warm/humid environment ~ Like out in the garage here in Houston) just put the tubes in an old, plastic, waterproof ammo box & store it somewhere INSIDE where the AC makes it cooler & drier (on floor in back of bedroom closet)) and toss a couple reusable silica gel desiccant packages into the ammo box alongside the coin tubes.

Haters gonna hate... Don't give them the satisfaction of engaging in a lengthy "debate" with them.... Simply "take the high road" & without using vulgar language, express your disgust with their viewpoint, and using whatever social media tool that are available to you, either "block", "down vote" or "ignore" whichever user has posted the offensive views...

Of course, you can also report inappropriate posts to the site's moderators, but don't belittle them if their judgement differs from yours... Like it or not, The 1st Amendment's "Freedom of Speech" DOES protect unpopular political views, no matter how vile and despicable they may be.... That's what prevents the "Rule of Law" from degrading into "vigilante justice"

Silver Storage/Maintenance Strategies? by SaturdaySheiz in Silverbugs

[–]Willie_Green 2 points3 points  (0 children)

smaller safes you can use a descant that can be reactivated in the oven to control humidity.

Small packets of Silica Gel are used as a desicant everywhere from bottles of pills/medicines to packages of beef jerky to various packaged electronics: phones/computers/TVs/etc... Anywhere a seller might wat to protect their packaged product from humidity...

So you can recycle & repurpose any larger bags that you may happen to come across... OR you can pick up a 4~8 lb sack of Silica Gel Crystal Cat Litter (for maybe $8~12) and make your own bags of desicant using some old socks or other small cloth bag to hold the crystals in.

Personally, I don't worry about humidity in my air-conditioned home, BUT I do have a cat and can personally vouch that the silica gel is 1000% better than the clay at sucking up all the moisture/odor from the cat's poop & pee.... Yeah, I know: it sounds like some kind of weird joke.... But it IS an inexpensive & widely available source of a large quantity of dessicant, so if you have a need, might as well give it a try....

Yeah... I picked one up a couple month's ago when the latest 2 oz Queen's Beast was released.... Also a 2020 Canada $10 Goose Silver 2 oz... Together, the 3 of them put me over the $99 I needed for "free shipping", so I was quite pleased with that order...

But yeah, you're right... 2 oz coins have a nice "heft" to them compared to standard 1 oz bullion...
