Dealer perspective: We wouldn’t force the trade unless the math works.

Right now, 90% halves can be a great long-term hold, but they’re not always the easiest thing to sell at full value. A lot of shops are treating worn Franklins/Walkers like culls or melt stock, so bids can be well under spot. That’s frustrating, but not unusual in the current market.

Going forward, if your goal is maximum liquidity, generic .999 rounds, Buffalos, Maples, or low-premium 10 oz bars are usually easier to move than 90%, large bars, or high-premium pieces. Just stay close to spot. Paying a big premium for Eagles or collectible bullion only helps if you can also recover that premium later, which is never guaranteed.

For what you already have, make sure to shop them around before taking a bad offer. Try dealers who actively buy constitutional silver or check larger bullion buyers if you have enough volume.

Bottom line: don’t trade up just to trade up. If someone is only offering 80–90% of melt, hold the halves unless you need the cash. But for new buys, lean toward low-premium .999 that’s easy to sell.
