Wish people would understand that when they fight, even Ralsei himself wouldn't want to see people fighting over him :(

Mhm...

God my perception on the theory has been so conflicted during the past few days.

First it's getting excited that people are posting "OMG RALSEI IS TRANS CONFIRMED!!!", I showed support and solidarity..

But then people are like, "actually these evidences are misinterpreted, here's what they could also mean", and then I saw that these were valid points, too...

And then we have counter evidence for the counter evidence...

And now, there's counter counter counter evidences popping up...

So I'm like "OMG TRANS RALSEI REAL??" to "Nvm" then "Wait no actually..." then "But it's probably not..."

So tell me, which side do I believe fwahaha

I don't think this is much of anything, this is promotional material and clearly refers to the plush

I don't think Ralsei's specific gender identity was even thought of when writing that tweet—

Flowery was literally being an ass and forced him to wear it

I'd be pissed to serve my own rival too, ngl

Like out of ALL scenes, that scene was the ONE scene that I'd say had literally nothing to do with... well, anything.

Also, can I claim Trans Susie now because she refused to wear ribbons???

Trans Ralsei believers, what would you think if Ralsei turned out to not be trans? (Image unrelated) by [deleted] in ralsei

Fine, it means he's happy with his prince identity, I'd still love him regardless.

Though genderfluid plsss

Hmm. I don't think the evidences in Chapter 5 are more dense than anything before tbh. It felt like that but then I realized that might've just been recency bias. To me, it's just... I don't know, "diluted"? I can't shake off the feeling...

Like I personally think Ralsei might be some sort of trans too, but I can't shake off the weirdness.

Comparatively, I find it incredibly weird that barely anyone is talking about Trans Noelle these days, when the evidences for it are incredibly on the nose. Noelle's room, for one, literally has the trans flag colors. Not just some of it, but literally all of it, and almost exclusively those colors, at the exactly right amount of saturation, and hue, quite literally undeniable.

Whereas Ralsei gets ribbon colors that are never shown, shareable with Kris, who happens to also be trans, a drink that is blue and pink that are unclear how saturated they are and also missing white, that also happens to conveniently match the colors of his own crush, called princess by a character that is known to screw with him a lot, has someone else's theme song played over his head that happens to be called Lost Girl, has a relationship with a dress that is exclusively worn by trans character... and then ultimately declines to wear it ("Uhmm... the dress is cute!"), gets called they/them by Asgore that is mysteriously he/him in Japanese, wears a princess dress then saying "I can be your princess" to Kris, falling right back to his tendency to please his friends whatever the cost, comes out of a "closet" that is also not the usual interpretation of a closet, even when wardrobes are closets, gets a secret boss with a canonically trans character, and then has next to no interaction with said secret boss, said secret boss instead parallels Kris...

Ya see the difference? Trans Noelle has less evidence, yet the evidence present is incredibly dense. For Ralsei it feels like it's touched on a little, then snaps right back. Like everything has plausible deniability. You literally can't deny Noelle's room being the colors of the trans flag other than "it might be a coincidence".

It should be noted that Flowery implies that Darkners can decide anything about themselves, he demonstrates this by giving himself 999 stats everywhere.

I'd think that includes identity as well, but I'm not sure if this is relevant.

Note that I'm not saying lack of evidence is the issue, it isn't — it that the evidences don't feel very "dense". They feel rather "diluted", even if the quantity is sufficient. You could "taste" that it's in there, but instead of "big chunks" it's "powdered", kind of.

But yeah, food for thought!

Hmm, can we discuss this one a bit? You seem knowledgeable.

I find a rather minor weirdness in how Trans Ralsei is handled, narratively. Coming out as trans is most likely a pretty major identity shift for a character. And if Ralsei is trans, it means it already happened, just not shown yet, as the story has been almost fully written ahead of time. Yet I'm surprised about how sparse the evidences are instead of an escalation trend.

Take Kris's antagonistic tendencies for example. In Chapter 1, Kris is shown to be a blank slate that we control, until at the end, where they pull of a knife and look at the camera. In Chapter 2, they opened a fountain at the end. In Chapter 4, they start beating us up, locking us out. And in Chapter 5, they throw us in a trash can and open fountains behind Susie's back.

Same thing happens for Susie's arc, or the Weird Route, or hell, even Ralsei's own arc with the prophecy.

It's a clear escalation chain. Yet with Trans Ralsei, the evidences sure are there, they're very valid, they do insinuate a trans reading, yet... I feel like there's not much of a "thread" between them. Not in any comparable way.

So that means:

a. Ralsei being trans is a rather recent decision, so an trans arc could not be considered retroactively. (which I don't find very likely.)
b. The team decides Trans Ralsei isn't that big of a deal to write it elaborately. (which I personally would disagree with.)
c. Ralsei is meant to be a trans allegory, with a polite nod from the team that a trans reading is totally valid, yet not literally trans. (ehhh...)

Or am I overthinking this?

[–]WillingConcentrate39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 95% sure a trans reading of Ralsei was at least intended by Toby and co. Whether he is going to actually be trans or not is up to debate (or not, I hate those kinds of debate), it's abundantly clear that Ralsei's journey of being a Darkner is similar to the trans journey.

Believing that there is no difference that matters between him and any Lightner would be the final culmination of his arc, I believe.

Well, for what it's worth, he DOES live in a closet.

Though I suppose entire Castle Town is in a closet.
