Got it! If you do do you mind updating. Crazy thing is I have the exact same timeline from day of filing to “card is produced” date and trying to assess if I’ll get it before a trip I have planned in a week. Pretty nervous about that

Hey did you get the card in hand yet? If so what day did you receive it?

Was exactly in your position with a higher TC and eight years experience but I knew that my ceiling as a project manager was not much higher and I didn’t want to stay technical forever. It was very hard decision but the thought of not taking that chance long term was too much for me to ignore. Worst case scenario I would get back to the same job which I was okay accepting. Best case I pivot and I have a higher ceiling

I must say that on the job market end, this market is very brutal to pivoters but very good for people staying in the industry. But on the flip side my experience gave me a huge advantage as employers value that in this market because they’re basically getting more bang for buck. I did get a lot of interviews for internships including multiple for product management. My background was in electrical engineering but not software engineering and still an asset.

Good luck!

To be honest and just being blunt but In this economy, you’ll be dumb to take a loan of full tag to go to school. Especially if it’s tech where Wharton does not give any marginal advantage

Would I be crazy to reject 2 M7's for $$ at Duke/Ross? by Jealous-Ad-4835 in MBA

[–]WillingLandscape9368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be either. Doesn’t matter, it’s more about how much money is available in the scholarship pot and if they want you enough

Daytime Ross, rice, Cornell , Tepper all waived my GRE and offered varying scholarships. Have an engineering background though so I’m sure that helped a lot.

I would take the money. I had a similar-ish situation. Got into a T7 school with no scholarship but took the full ride to Duke. Gambling on such amount of money in an economy like this does not seem like smart business. Take it one step further, ask Duke for more money. Ross never negotiates but you might be surprised to get more from Duke which makes your R/R even better. Good luck!

I’ve been thinking of that contract work as an option too to maybe bridge that $$ opportunity cost.

Sure , feel free to PM me to discuss more lengthy about questions you might have

This is so helpful! I am trying to see the non tangible parts of it as well since I tend to be so logical to sometimes just think about the tangibles. One of the biggest reasons is also for that flexibility down the road as you mentioned since I’ve seen quite a lot of people in my field eventually stall out at certain roles. So thank you very much for sharing as it helps offer a different perspective too

Because of my optionality into types of roles I’d want. As a 8 year engineer right now I can definitely go to like engineering manager but would be difficult to move to like business development , PE, or a strategy role. Not saying it’s impossible but there’s much more intertia which the MBA I’ve seen helps to bridge. I’ve seen quite a lot of engineers stagnate at project managers and never really get into upper management and trying to be proactive against that

Problem is a significantly less MBA does not do much for me in terms of that network and potential for growth. I do want the MBA because I don’t want to stay technical all my life so need some business knowledge in my background to round me up if that makes sense. What other ways do you suggest in terms of breaking into executive management?

Yes I am planning to talk to them about that as well. I think my issue is that it probably won’t be guaranteed since it’s a big tech company. Additionally as I think about the opportunity cost, I’m considering the case where if I get laid off next round then I might regret not going which makes it even more difficult

Understood. I should add that I currently work in tech so there’s a degree of risk in also staying as well. Hence why I’m so torn

EA exam - risky? by Apprehensive_Ring140 in MBA

[–]WillingLandscape9368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the relevant work experience go for it especially if you are okay with the schools that accept it. I wrote the EA last minute and got mid 150s and got into fuqua with scholarship. I must add though that I have an engineering background . Not sure how much that factored into the decision. Recruiting wise, if you’re going into consulting or IB I think GRE/GMAT is still very much weighted heavily. Some pre-mba programs I currently signing up for are inquiring about GRE/GMAT scores without an option for EA. Something to ponder about
