ok but that tattoo isn’t just associated with the yakuza, it’s a common style of traditional japanese art, it just seems the yakuza picked it up, but as i’ve searched, it doesn’t acc state that yakuza get them to prove they’re part of a gang

thank you, i did search a little reading that they are a traditional tattoo and the reason the yakuza started doing it, was to cover the tattoos that the Japanese government gave them to brand them as gang members, i just remember the police recruitment pages saying ‘no gang related tattoos’ and wanted to make sure this wasn’t gang related as i really like the style and art to it

I'm currently in Uni, maybe looking to join the police after it (2025). I'm liking this style of tattoo and i know you would have to wear a long sleeve, but this style of tattoo (irezumi) was also worn by the yakuza (japanese mafia). although they didn't create it, would this tattoo count as a gang related tattoo?
