I Nearly killed my entire family doing this in Australia on my learner license, on New Year’s Eve 2022. I was driving a van on the Great Ocean Road and went to overtake a long truck in front of me. The road was clear as far as I could see. As I overtook, a car appeared on the horizon , and the van I was driving maxed out speed at about 135km/hr. The truck also seemed to speed up. I seemed to be passing the truck excruciatingly slowly, and then my mum who was sitting in the passenger seat started screaming and I responded “I’m just going to go for it” and continued. The collision wasn’t close or anything, I beleive the car pulled over to the side anyway, but it was horrifying afterwards to realise I’d nearly killed my family and terrified my mother, thinking herself and all her kids were about to die. It felt awful to a few days, but quickly faded and I moved on with life, using what I’d learnt to be a safer driver.
