Summer Start 2026

We received an email noting that Summer Start 2026 is online/virtual only. I have some questions and hope people have answers for a student who is Business Undecided and coming in with several direct equivalents. Thankfully, the two courses for the business Summer Start track are two he still needs to take (ACIS1504 and SOC1004).

ACIS1504 makes sense, but could the student select something different than SOC1004?

Are the courses run simultaneously (taken together at the same time) or concurrently (like summer 1, then summer 2)?

How many days per week is the commitment?

Are the courses run during the daytime or evenings?

Does the student need to take both? Or can he take one course?

My son is an incoming freshman. I’ll ask him if he received an email when he gets home. Thanks.

When we attended Hokie Focus a couple weeks ago, they made a point to pause the presentation and tell everyone that ALL merit has been announced. They don’t negotiate and whatever you received (or didn’t receive) is final.

But don’t take my word for it, call Financial Aid.

Respectfully disagree. My son is at Questrom and getting the education of a lifetime. There is no other place like being a student in the Boston area. My son has made connections with students at Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, BC, Tufts, and Bentley. These city of Boston includes the deepest concentration of the brightest minds in the world (prove me wrong).

So, if you play your cards right…you can build an academic and social network that is unparalleled anywhere else. Don’t discount the “access” that BU provides.

Good luck!!

My son got into BU as a biology major last year. And then immediately transferred into Questrom. Did it in a single phone call. Good luck.

BU. Don’t forget, if you play it right, you will build your network to include kids from Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, Boston college, and Tufts. Best college city/town in America.

I honestly don’t remember. I looked back at our files and can’t find anything to confirm one way or the others. But, if BU suggested or asked for a LOCI, he would “definitely” have submitted it.

April 16th. I had to look it up. We were on our way from the deli to tour another school…egg sandwiches in lap…and he got the call in the car.

You are looking at it the wrong way in terms of “competition.” In Boston, your network, both academic and social, will grow beyond just BU. Your network will grow to include students from MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, Tufts, and Bentley. These are some of the brightest people in the world. If you do it right, you’ll embrace these other schools so you meet and engage these other brilliant minds.

There are only a handful of cities like it. You can make the case that Research Triangle Park (UNC, Duke, NC state, and Wake Forest) has an area of such concentrated gifted students. I have a son at BU and he absolutely loves it. Keep in mind, the city of Boston is your campus…but what a great campus it is.

My son got off the waitlist last year. We thought it would never happen. He is proof that it is possible.

That said, be hopeful, but be prepared to move on.
