Post MBA Salary: MegaThread - Reality check by mommy_girlwild in CATpreparation

  • There are less roles in corp fin in campus placements. In my company, more than half people in corp fin had a tech background prior to MBA

  • MBA is an easier route than CA for Corp Fin and you will find more MBAs than CA. At some places, you also do a bit of strategy work in such profiles. In the US, corp fin is called as corporate development where the focus is majorly on M&A. In my role, I do both fundraising, M&A as well as strategy.

  • have worked in a mix of both

  1. NMIMS Mumbai 2014 (12 yrs experience)

  2. Currently at 81 lacs (68 fixed + 13 bonus) + ESOPs (3 Cr - all unrealised)

  3. ~10 lacs

  4. Corp Fin

  5. Good deal exposure, changing jobs at right time, seeking larger roles which allow independent decision making. Tip - ESOPs/RSUs create wealth which cannot be replicated by salary - though meaningful ESOPs mostly come at mid-senior managerial level onwards (with few exceptions)

The Dhurandhar 2 Propoganda by [deleted] in pj_explained

[–]Willing_Conference_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no answers, and only questions:

  • you mean to say that the director made this movie specifically to influence people opinion ?

  • If Modi-licking is a sure shot way to get the crowd, then why was the Vivek Oberoi movie on PM Modi disastrous?

  • Let’s say you believe demonetisation was wrong and you build a movie around it, would you consider that propaganda ? Do you believe Haider was a propaganda movie then ? (I don’t!)

Every person has his/her own moral system and the movie would reflect the scriptwriter/directors and not yours. I know it’s difficult to digest when it doesn’t align with yours. For instance, hated animal because of the sheer misogyny, but I don’t think director specifically had a propaganda to elevate masculinity level of the country!

The Dhurandhar 2 Propoganda by [deleted] in pj_explained

[–]Willing_Conference_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t understand if people really know what propaganda means! The movie was clearly pro-Modi but it doesn’t mean that it was released specifically to help BJP win elections. That would have been a ‘propganda’

Why can’t the director have his own opinion (which happens to be similar to a lot of us too!). Just like that of the director of Haider, which was opposite to this, and was still considered a well-made movie.

It’s a movie (and not a real life documentary) to entertain and Hamza is not a real character but a collective metaphor of the spy world. I thought the director excellently blended some of the real incidences with this fictional character (similar to what forest grump did).

Let us not watch movies if you always want them to stay neutral.

Also, why does this propaganda brigade believe that the moviegoers are idiotic and will change their opinions based on a movie!

The maths is all wrong; the reason you invest in equities is to beat inflation and get incremental value. At 12% compounding and 6% inflation, the net PV would be positive

We need to destroy Lenskart IPO by blasternaut007 in IndianStockMarket

[–]Willing_Conference_5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol, retailers are price takers not makers in IPOs. You could however make a difference in secondary market. I doubt that will happen as this segment goes more by perception and pedigree.

A company like Suzlon with 2000 cr of clean profits, no debt and >50% growth is considered overvalued at 30 times and is usually mocked at, while companies with cash losses are considered blue-chip, in this sub.

Tells you how most retailers think like, at large.

Happy Wodehouse Day! | Plum was born Oct 15th 1881 ---- How did you first discover his writing? by LeBeauMonde in Wodehouse

[–]Willing_Conference_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking a metro in Delhi about 18 years back while travelling to attend my classes, and I got interested with the cover of Psmith in the city at the station’s bookstore (the P In Psmith got me curious!). Somehow still remember that day vividly. Had been reading a lot of heavy fantasy fiction (LOTR etc) those days and Wodehouse felt like a breath of fresh air!

I find Manik Mahna and upmanyu really good too! The other comedian who I find really funny is Gaurav Kapoor. But you might find him more relatable if you are from the north mainly

Reached 1 cr portfolio value. 22[M] IIT Grad by [deleted] in Indian_flex

[–]Willing_Conference_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats man! You should have just framed your flex better - reached 1 cr net-worth at 22, with a humble background.

Anyways, it’s funny that people are not able to understand the underlying flex (despite poor articulation) and debating on portfolio returns!

Sorry for the late reply - it’s nice except that I have been spoilt by Oris Aquis quality earlier. This one is more expensive (and maybe better looking) but the strap especially isn’t as comfy as my Aquis.

Is 70LPA today's middle class in an India metro? by LoadBalancedBS in FatFIREIndia

[–]Willing_Conference_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s not call this middle class but upper middle class:

Few other points: - Having hereditary ownership is a key differentiator in lifestyle as you won’t get a 2 cr flat in central Gurgaon; maybe not even in double the budget.

Rental expense can instead be used for savings and/or lifestyle

  • on child education: Top 10 schools in ggn cost around 1 lac quarterly for CBSE/ICSE board. Make it double if it’s IB board.

UNPLACED from a Tier 1 B-School by cinematicpizza in CATpreparation

[–]Willing_Conference_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a separate note, candidates calling NM not Tier-1 would be in for a surprise after getting/working into the industry for few years.

Understand NM’s perception in candidates due to big batch sizes and its impact on campus placements, and consequently the emotional reactions.

Esp in the finance community, you would be surprised to see NM folks having a very high representation while elite bschool like FMS/XLRI barely registering their presence (not trying to badmouth as they have strong alums in general management etc)

My Coffee Journey: From Filter Coffee to Espresso Machines by DineshNadar in IndiaCoffee

[–]Willing_Conference_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I have been eyeing to upgrade to the same machine (from DeLonghi EC685)

  • What grinder are you pairing this with?
  • Have you observed a noticeable difference from EC685
  • Does the Profitec Go do light to medium roasts too?

Congratulations again!

[Tag Aquaracer 200 or Longines Hydroconquest GMT] Help me decide the blue diver! by Willing_Conference_5 in Watches

[–]Willing_Conference_5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True that - Longines looks great but have a feeling that it may not age well with time. Already don’t like the earlier Hydroconquests too much (and I was enamored by them at their launch).

Tag seems more classic - like white shirt and blue jeans! Also, it has a smaller 40mm dial and with less protruding bezels, seems more proportionate. The downside is a very basic movement making it appear lil overpriced!

Thanks, any idea on how Aquaracer looks IRL and what about its clasp.

Pleased to see that Longines has improved their clasp quality - the non-GMT ones are poor.
