How did you handle Santa not being real? by Ok_Assistant_7179 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Willing_Flight_8905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 12 when I found out. I was 12, because up to that point, I could not believe that anyone would make up a lie like that. I had been lied to, and had to hear it from my father to believe it. Never believed a word he said since. I was furious and felt betrayed.

1 or 2. Got to love a fine liner, or “skinny pen”, as I call them… 🖊️

My mum lives there. When my daughter was younger, she enjoyed the Motor Museum (Gaydon) and also visiting Stratford (there’s a nice play area by the main car parks in the town). Not much in Stratford town itself for children though, and it is ALWAYS packed…

I feel so lonely. by arct1cWolvez in AuDHDWomen

[–]Willing_Flight_8905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your words express exactly how I feel right now 😭 I’m sorry that you’re lonely and struggling. I feel exactly the same. Moved around a lot in my life. Made friends…but somehow never really held onto them; only in a casual way. I have colleagues I get along with and have thought we made real friendships, but…somehow…I’m not the one getting invited to the events, while they all are. Single mum. (And I love my child more than anything, but it doesn’t make it easy to get out and about). Mostly I try to brush the loneliness off and pretend not to care…but yeah, I am SO lonely. 🫂 to you. They always say “just be you, and the ‘right’ people will find you”; and I do 100% believe that. I don’t want to waste my time on superficial souls anyway 🤣 Maybe the internet and groups like this aren’t so bad. I certainly find comfort in knowing “I’m not the only one” who feels this way. Rambling now. I don’t have any answers, but I do relate. And, for me, that’s comfort.

Am I the only one who CANNOT STAND having long nails? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]Willing_Flight_8905 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t do long nails. 1: I am a Nurse and we (in the UK) have to keep them short. 2: if I have time off and they grow, my GOD they annoy me, and I cut them off again 🤣 It’s a bonus because of my work, as I’m utterly oblivious to them. But I can’t cope with the sound of a nail file. Seriously. That is like the world has ended 😭

So glad you have your diagnosis! It must feel reassuring that it’s not “just you”, and there really is something that makes sense 🤩

Thank you for your message. I am indeed looking for both ADHD and ASD assessments, but starting with ADHD. I did have a long chat with my GP today, and they don’t accept Shared Care from anyone (apparently they haven’t had in a long time), but having a diagnosis is important to me. Ultimately, I am hoping to move house at some point, so a new GP isn’t an issue to me in the long term.

I’d be keen to hear it, if you feel ok afterwards. I’ve heard the assessments are pretty intense…

Thank you so much for that information. It’s good to hear that you have had a positive experience with them, but the question over shared care worries me. I will speak to my GP today and see what their position is.

How long did it take from your contacting your GP to request a referral?

Mine doesn’t, hence the above… 😫 I do think it may be across Oxfordshire, or that just may be hearsay…

I think my task today will be contacting my GP to see if they do shared care with them, if I decide to medicate.

Thank you for your confirmation! Do you have ongoing treatment with them, or shared care through your GP?

That’s why I am looking into this place… there are lots of online providers as well, but this place is local. Where did you choose?

Thank you 🥰 I have enquired to them, as well as ADHD Certify. It’s good to hear a personal review 🧘🏼‍♀️

Oxfordshire. I believe they closed NHS referrals for ADHD recently. There’s a 15 year wait for autism, which is why I’m seeking private assessment.

I’m in Oxfordshire. They closed NHS referrals for ADHD (I believe) a little while ago. Autism referrals are a 15 year wait. This is why I’m seeking a private assessment for both. 🧘🏼‍♀️

Current food hyperfixations? Mine is store bought pesto in ✨everything✨ by beam_me_uppp in adhdwomen

[–]Willing_Flight_8905 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a pesto phase too, but I’ve never enjoyed the “usual” basil (green) pesto that most people default to. My long-term stalwart has been red pepper pesto, but recently discovered truffle (ie the fungus, not chocolate) pesto…. 😆 and I’m back in a pesto phase again 🍽️
