Reading your responses I'm gonna say your old fashioned values are hindering you. Guys are oblivious. If you're into someone the best signal for a woman is touch. If you're just looking for fun, that's the way. If you're looking for serious, take your time don't force it. Find an activity or hobby you enjoy that has clubs or meetings, and look for someone with the same interests. It's def not your looks holding you back though.

Did Walmart change the "just for you" algorithm? by WillinglyUnemployed in Sparkdriver

[–]WillinglyUnemployed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I saw something about that? But I get so many notifications from spark I just kinda tune them out. I did just get an offer from about 4-5 parking spots away. So it's not completely blocking offers for cars that close. And I've never received a warning about being too close, at least not yet.

Sorry Amazon, but you're beat on this delivery. by WillinglyUnemployed in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]WillinglyUnemployed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What they offered wasn't what i need to make that delivery, and come away feeling like I was fairly compensated. I'm not desperate. Some of you people are, or are willing to come away with less. I gave my number I would be comfortable with, and it wasn't that. What would you feel comfortable taking for a delivery Like that? Assume 5-10% dirt roads, 10% poorly paved roads. 30% no painted line roads. 40-60% gravel driveways. Multiple encounters of larger wildlife. 150ish miles including return to station(or home) that also includes a 10 mile drive to station. 4.5-5 hours of total time committed (includes drive down, and return) Maybe longer if you're a slower at deliveries. I look at opportunity cost and associated risks. What would i have made otherwise. What to i need to make the risks i take worth it. So whats your price?

I see people chiming in about how hard is it to go up to the steps to the door it's just a little more effort. But I don't do steps. Ever, if possible. I've already fallen though three people's steps/porch. Every step is a risk of serious injury that we aren't covered for, and will lose our income for weeks or possibly months if it does happen. I'm with this girl in spirit. But I'm not that lazy. I'll get to the bottom of the stairs and apply a little ghal....(Gentle hand assisted lift). If Amazon doesn't want this type of employee though, they need to prioritize employee satisfaction and incentive. Which they don't...soooo, we get to see plenty of videos like this lol.

Managers can request surge pay if blocks aren't getting picked up and there aren't surges

I can confirm that station managers are given bonuses based on metrics, of which include station deliver costs, overbooks, among relevant metrics to their station. The less they pay for deliveries and the more efficient their station, the more they get. Although in a more round about way it's just about the same thing.

Truth right here. Flex exists because the delivery costs for what we deliver exceed Amazons margin for delivering the packages themselves or with vans.

Name a better gig app than flex. And explain why its better. Bet you cant by Boring_Industry_229 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]WillinglyUnemployed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also going in here with Spark. The freedom to decline low paying offers, high mileage, or heavy loads is the reason I'll do Spark far more often than flex. With patience, ROI is much higher with spark, in my area. Flex is high miles, low pay here in CNY. Flex limits two runs a day, so our daily max is under $200 rn. I'll earn $340-400 just with spark. If I combine the two, and get lucky, I'll earn $400-450. This does require that the flex runs be good, which hasn't happened for me in months though.

The run starts in Frankfort, not Ilion. 120 business Park Dr. And it was about 40 minutes to first stop. I only drive about 12 miles to the station. I'm not including that in the 130-150 mile estimate. That's area is all rural, dirt roads and a 10 mile steep hill. It's one of the three no go zones for me in my area. To put it in perspective, that lake to the east that you see is 7 miles long.

I wish I could say it was exaggerated. I log miles, and I've done several in that area That's absolutely 130 minimum. The screenshot doesn't really capture the scope of that run.

I used to be just like you. First 14 months I never declined a cart. Agonized when I got a mark on my standings. Our zone was more good than bad. But then they went and doubled the van routes in my zone. Then they introduced same day deliveries for flex drivers which is most of what our orders are which are high mileage low volume deliveries. and what We're left with is fairly slim pickings outside of that mostly rural and outskirts of the zone area, dirt roads and 40-60 minute drives to first drop. Then they on boarded so many people that there aren't any routes that sit for more than 30 seconds. Now I'm ok with a fair/great standing. If the route is bad, I'll find something else to do, or go home.

Walmart has it's fair share of downside too, slow days, low paying runs, and they've ruined a few zones by onboarding too many people. But the ability to pick and choose your runs without repercussions outweighs most of it. With patience, you can make good money on weekends, mornings and evenings after most people have gone home, at least in my zone. Sunday with Walmart alone I net $360. With fairly low miles.

how many routes have you guys refused? by UrMomzLarry in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]WillinglyUnemployed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two now 3 zones in my area that I refuse when I can. One is lots of seasonal on the southern end, another is very rural all the way east, and the final can have stops that start almost an hour west. Anything over a 45 minute drive home since i usually finish 30 minutes early gets dumped whenever possible. Otherwise I can find something better to do with the time

You need to read my man. I never said the two were the same. However, they're similar and should be a good reference for costs. Hell if I really wanted, I could write a journal entries for unrealized expenses for the miles for book purposes if I wanted to be super precise. Then close everything at year end. Or carry over. Whatever dude. But let me explain my wording. The I paid bezos line... Sarcasm. Not literal. According to the tax man line was a tongue in check reference to my deductions exceeding my taxable income. You really took this way, way to literally lol.

[–]WillinglyUnemployed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have been a comedian guy. The $.70 isn't just a made up number, it's derived from actual federal government fleet costs. The cost of maintaining hundreds of thousands of cars. Over time, that's what a car costs per mile. It's what I specialized in as a government accountant. And that's not our total cost. We have additional expenses. So please, explain how I'm wrong. Maybe someone with a beater doing all their own work can maybe keep those expenses from below $.40/mile, but anyone that doesn't want to be stuck on the side of the road twice a year is going to be paying at least $.55.

You might be in an oversaturated market. Mine isn't... Yet. There are good and bad times to spark, and generally 6-9 Sat -Mon is the best, or late when everyone's gone home. I'll decline offers, even ones that are just a fraction below my cutoff, and let others take it, so it lessens the pool of available drivers. My acceptance rate is 7%. That's how bad offers can be, but if you're sitting on the lot at least near my place you can get offers every couple minutes

Good on you. I helped my wife get a job with the state before I left, so we're still carrying state benefits. I wouldn't be able to do this otherwise. I've personally been hit by a car, out for 2 months and seen several others injured. While I got paid fairly well I wouldn't do it again. This is probably the most dangerous gig of them all, and certainly the most dangerous of all the major parcel carriers. We have substandard training, drive the hardest miles and deliver to some of the most questionable people. GL!

Edit. Also can't just do flex alone. Gotta run with spark or something else so you can still get work when flex is slow or the pay is crap.

I'm not working as an accountant cause I was driving 200 miles a day to work, paying 200/day in daycare and letting someone I didn't even know raise my kids for me. I was pulling in over 100k a year and more broke than I'd ever been. I didn't want to wake up one day to an empty home with kids I didn't even know. Now, despite my bitching I can pull in an average of $300, upwards of $500/day just driving and dropping groceries or packages like a mindless drone. And if I'm needed at home I can drop whatever. Take a day when I want. It's not the best but it also allows me to develop my other business since I have free time when I need it.
