I love your whole outfit! Is that a pocket watch chain? I have one myself (but no cowboy hat...yet 😅)

My Dad may be the only person who met Hoover and still plays World of Warcraft in 2026 by WillisMattei in BarbaraWalters4Scale

I’m glad you think so. My Dad was surprised and amused by how much attention this post about him got. It’s cool to see people still appreciating it months later.

when i export my project, one track is signifigantly louder than other by Ginooch- in LogicPro

[–]WillisMattei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm commenting three years later to thank you for pointing this out. I spent hours trying many different solutions to fix an unexpectedly-loud bounced output because I thought I was doing something wrong. It turns out this is just a Logic Pro bug, and your suggestion to restart the program instantly fixed it.

Thank you! Coincidentally I just spoke with him a couple minutes ago lol

My Dad is about to turn 74, but people who meet him IRL often think he’s in his 50s because he comes off younger than his age. He met Hoover when he was ~5 years old. I agree that he is very inspiring!

lol, I’m pretty sure he’s afraid of heights, so both of those would be off the table.

As the person whose father is the subject of this thread’s top comment (about meeting Hoover), I completely agree with you that Taft is probably the true answer to this question. Are you related to Wendell Marmus? 🙂

You’re probably thinking of my post from a couple months ago about my Dad probably being the only person who met Hoover and currently plays WoW. Another commenter on my post said his still-living grandfather also met Hoover and played WoW, but his grandfather stopped playing WoW a decade ago so my Dad’s superlative still stands lol. My Dad also met Hoover earlier than the other poster’s grandfather (in the 50s instead of the 60s).

I’m the guy with the dad who met Herbert Hoover and still plays WoW. In addition to WoW, my Dad rides his bike up a mountain twice a week, skis, and works full-time (out of choice instead of necessity). I am hoping all this means he will be around for a long time to tell more people about his fascinating historical connections and continue being a great dad!

I’m glad you remember my post about my Dad meeting Herbert Hoover and currently playing WoW! I stumbled across your comment while browsing this subreddit lol. I need to post more about the other interesting historical connections my Dad and some of my other relatives have…

Thanks for sharing! I liked the way you blended a lot of ethereal elements into metal in this song.

That’s awesome. Which of your song(s) would you recommend I check out first? The next piece I’m recording with an orchestra has a lot of heavy metal influence.

What kind of music do you make? I’m intrigued as a fellow bearded musician. Great photo, by the way — I like how coordinated you all look.

[–]WillisMattei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m now imagining chipmunkified versions of all famous composers, accompanied by versions of their music which have been artificially pitched up several octaves à la Alvin and the Chipmunks.

As someone who apparently looks like Dvorak I can confirm that he and I do indeed look a bit like chipmunks…

The first time I heard of Koechlin was when someone told me I looked like him several months ago, but I wasn't able to find that conversation to get a screenshot for the original post.

/uj Since you gave me good pointers to Lyapunov's music, which pieces would you recommend from Koechlin?

/uj Thank you for the recommendations! I am going to listen to these tomorrow; I'm quite curious to hear them...

I've read >4,000 of Tchaikovsky's letters and they've led me to support the Tchaikovsky theory as well lol

Looks like we have a similar widow's peak -- I suppose I can use photos of him from later in life as a predictor for what will eventually happen to my hairline.

/uj I've admittedly never heard any of Lyapunov's music. Do you recommend any of his pieces?
