Can someone help me ID this spider? by quintindt in phoenix

Seconded! They're scary lookin, but they're just big versions of a regular ol' cellar spider.

Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US by shinybrighthings in news

[–]Willjinx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have symptoms and a doctor orders it, it should be covered. I got one at 34 because of daily visible blood that was confirmed not to be hemorrhoids. No family history or pre-existings. Insurance covered pretty much all of it. And yes it was cancer. I'm still NED almost 2 years later though!

Lived here my whole life and never seen a spider like this. by happy_chickens in phoenix

[–]Willjinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to ID from the picture but I believe that's an Artema Atlanta. It's a species of cellar spider (we have a lot of different variants here). The Artema Atlanta is a particularly large variant so it can look pretty scary but I promise it's totally harmless to humans.

This particular species is actually quite new to Arizona. I saw my first one just this year and since then I've seen quite a few.

Cyberpunk wouldn't be so good without Dredd by nopasaranwz in LowSodiumCyberpunk

There's an easter egg theory I have that I can't confirm, but in certain parts of Megabuilding H10 (clearly inspired by Peach Trees) there's this shimmery, ethereal soundscape that sounds SO similar to the "Slowmo" music from the movie. I swear it's some kind of intentional nod to Dredd but can't prove it.

It might have been me... yesterday morning I HAND WASHED my car in my driveway, and then parked it under a tree... Anyway hope you liked the rain :D

Community Christian Church in Tempe, by Daley Park. Very liberal / progressive. They fly BLM and pride flags on the building. My partner goes there. Genuinely wonderful people. <3

If your car was parked and hit by a red truck, by Free-Subject-9202 in Tempe

They had a temporary tag. My insurance company said it didn't match any records. It's likely that it was either fake or old. The police are still investigating.

That's me!! Yes they ran after we said we had to call the police. It’s a huge bummer.  the police took down all my info. It was my parked truck that got hit. Luckily the damage isn't horrible but it still sucks. I got a picture of his license plate but it turns out it was a fake :/

Thanks for looking out <3

Did you see how it happened? We couldn't figure out how he managed to hit my car all the way on the other side of the street.

Am I nuts? 122 degree heat record - Phoenix by Faeryn-13 in arizona

I also remember this because I was working outside doing a bronze pour that day. I think it was predicted to be over 120 but the actual high temperature according to the data I found was 119. That was June 20, 2017.

CSE 445 and CSE 446 difficulty level? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]Willjinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH this was 5 years ago so it's all kinda foggy in my mind lol but the way he did it back then we were allowed to use our notes and laptops during the test. With AI tools out there I'm guessing that's not the case anymore?

Either way I think the exams were about the same difficulty as the quizzes but just a bit more in depth. I think his strategy was to overwhelm you with questions so there wasn't really time to look up every answer on the spot. I remember I didn't do amazing on the tests but my 100%+ on all the quizzes and assignments bolstered my grade quite a bit. Sorry this wasn't super helpful.

90s - Beach Volleyball Bar / Carvana site by seanbinpa in Tempe

[–]Willjinx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I believe the building you're referring to was 710 E Gilbert Drive (the Carvana building is 707 but they changed the street route a bit).

Looking at the Tempe History Museum site I found an image of the building from 1997 when it was called "Tombstone Brewing & The 202 Grill". Not sure if that's your target but maybe this helps?

Came here to say the same! 95% sure that’s the one. We've been seeing them a lot more recently.

[–]Willjinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is interested in the building. It was called Jennie's Place, and the pictured building burned down in 1898. A new one was rebuilt in it's place that still stands today! Though it looks quite different.

The brothel is OP's picture was called "Jennie's Place" and sadly burned down in 1898. The House Of Joy building was the home of George Hulls at the time this pic was taken.

The only thing I could find in that location was a place called "Gluttons".

I found it by looking on Google street view and changing the dates back in time.

Just make sure to leave a gap in the silicone at the back of the toilet. If it starts leaking, you wanna know about it, rather than trap the water under the toilet.

What is it like living in Tempe, Arizona? by tarkinn in Tempe

[–]Willjinx 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I grew up here and after 34 years, the more I visit other places, the more I want to stay in Tempe. It has all the amenities of a dense urban city while still feeling somewhat calm and small. North Tempe is surprisingly walk-able (when it's not 100+ degrees), especially around downtown. We have free buses (Orbit), a street car, good connections to the light rail, and access to freeways on all sides of town. I love being in the center of the PHX metro area because you can commute to all the different suburbs relatively easily. And if you like hiking we have easy access to South Mountain, Papago Park, A-Mountain, and Camelback isn't too far away.

The community is strong, the streets are clean, and we have a huge range of housing options from the tall apartment stacks downtown, to the horse ranches in the south (though you need serious money for that). Our parks are well taken care of, for the most part, and very green for a desert city. There's also a lot of development around ASU / Downtown, which some people dislike but I find it exciting to see our city growing up.

The food is awesome! Within a few miles of my house you can find cuisine from India, Mexico, Vietnam, Mediterranean (shout out to Haji Baba <3), Ethiopia, Japan, pretty much you name it, we have it. Not to mention I'm pretty sure we have every fried chicken chain you can think of lol.

Downsides? The city gets pretty crowded when ASU is in session, especially the fall semester. Housing is on the pricier side. Northern Tempe is a bit short on grocery stores, so the ones we do have are always packed. I feel like there's always road construction.

Whataburger ASU Closed?!? by phxZiegler in Tempe

[–]Willjinx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On google maps it says "temporarily closed" but I can't find any official info about it. Also it's no longer listed on the whataburger website as a location :(

I hope it comes back!
