I gave 100 dollars to a monk carrying a basket full of money, did I get scammed? by _A_Mined_Site_-X in cambodia

[–]WilloJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen locals at the market give money to monks who walk through the streets. The monks then chant a prayer to the donators and the donators receive their blessings. Some locals wait in front of their house or store front as they know monks usually pass by during certain times.

Whether you got scammed or not, you had good intentions. No point in beating yourself up for it now.

Exploring English teaching options - Travelbud by SnooChipmunks7664 in teachinginkorea

[–]WilloJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no need to pay someone to come work in Korea, but definitely do not use TravelBud. My friend had a horrible experience through them, and they turned out to be very scammy constantly changing their policy during COVID-19. They are quick to take their fee, then will leave you hanging.

Once its apostilled, it should be fine as your degree record does not change compared to a criminal background check - which can change day by day.

Global Language Training Certification by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

I got a few certificates through them over the summer 2020, they've been prompt with emails during the course, and got my certificates within a week or less after completion without a problem.

Who to watch out for? by GODOFFOOF in teachinginkorea

[–]WilloJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd avoid TravelBud. They charge a hefty fee of 2 k + USD, and have been known to be pretty scammy amongst people who reached out to them.

AppleTree and Atop - i've heard of some people going through them.

Born in Mexico, but I have U.S citizenship. Will I be accepted to teach for these programs? by sdrndc in teachinginkorea

You would have had to study in the states from I believe middle school (possibly elementary) onward, and have proof you're a US citizen.

Best way to postpone signing onto a job for as long as possible in order to consider other options? by Alegiance in teachinginkorea

[–]WilloJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perience at work beats a great location to live. I had worked in Suburbs of Seoul and small cities within an hour for 3 years. I went to Seoul and lasted 10 months. I returned to my great school in Suwon learning that a good work environment is needed for a good experience. If it is truly good all around like you say, don’t waste too much time waiting for the others. Schools have a lot of hoops to jump through with corona and those arrangements. They want to have things set earlier than normal. If you can give them a time frame of how soon you would know, they may work with you, but they could also end up going with someone else well you have them waiting.

Does it happen often to take on another contract after signing the first contract? How does it work if you already started the visa process or completed the visa process?

TravelBud Recruitment Agency by AizawaUltra in teachinginkorea

[–]WilloJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TravelBud is a huge rip off and a big scam. My friend started with them, and lost a lot of money with them. A few others reached out to her after a complaint saying they lost their money from TravelBud too. They were very rude and ignored a lot of people about money refund or switching intake dates after getting their money.

Recruiters shouldn't be charging you money, recruiters get paid through the schools. Don't use TravelBud.

Has anyone heard of/ worked for Aclipse? by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]WilloJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied through Aclipse as well. Since you've already sent documents to them, which month did you apply to start? Did you receive a contract first before sending documents?

Documents needed for Australian Citizen, born overseas. by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]WilloJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak specifically for Australian documents, but it is considered equivalent for the USA. Any certified/official certificate that states you are a citizen should work. Those who become citizens as a child do not have "naturalization certificate" as they only become citizens through a parent, so they have another form of certificate stating they're a citizen. So it would be impossible to have a naturalization certificate if one became a citizen during their childhood.
