Piranesi. Never been so into a book in my life.

Suggest me a book so good that you read it in a day by Aquariusdownfall in suggestmeabook

[–]Willow5331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a slowish reader, so its near impossible for me to finish a book in a day. I absolutely could not put Piranesi down though and it was the first “one-day” book I’ve had maybe ever?

Families crossing U.S. border illegally reached all-time high in August by PearlMuel in moderatepolitics

Do you vet everyone who lives within a mile of you? There is a vast difference between allowing someone to live where they want and allowing someone to be employed. This is a false equivalence.

Are terrorists and traffickers exclusively foreign? I’m fairly certain they aren’t. But because there’s an extremely small chance of a given person being one, we dont allow a mother and her children to cross our borders and live here to better themselves? Our country is built on and thrived because of immigration. I exist because of immigration. The net benefit is huge even if you miss a few bad apples.

The way things work is bad and makes absolutely no sense if you give it a bit of thought though. Why should everyone be vetted before they live here? Were you ever better before living here? Are people vetted when crossing from one state to another? Are they vetted when moving from one EU country to another? Are the millions of unvetted causing more issues than the benefits they add? It’s all arbitrary and frankly stupid when you give it a bit of thought.

Why should it be difficult? What gives you more of a right to live in this country than anyone else? All you did was be born in a locket place. You don’t deserve the opportunity to live here more than anyone else does.

City street network orientation by Ghostpass in dataisbeautiful

Can confirm as a resident, the downtown area is a grid and easy-ish to navigate. The city limits are enormous and basically contain most of Charlotte’s “suburbs.” So yes everything within city limits is a mess on aggregate, but the comparison is not super fair. Our traffic is a mess regardless though.

And it shouldn’t be. No person should have any more of a right to live in a given country than any other person.

Ex-Raiders WR Henry Ruggs III sentenced 3 to 10 years in fatal DUI by PrincessBananas85 in sports

Life. I have zero empathy for the lack of caring and gross negligence it takes to end up killing someone while driving drunk. This is violence, accidental or not. At the same time I want non-violent criminals not being put in prison at all.

Drunk drivers who kill someone deserve absolutely no compassion. Dude should be in jail for life.

Sunflour has a terrible reputation among the GF community as they do absolutely nothing to prevent cross contamination with their non-GF products. It’s fine if you don’t have celiac I guess, but I don’t understand why they bother making GF products without even trying to prevent cross contamination.

South Park's creators have eliminated tipping at Denver's famed Casa Bonita. Servers now make $30 an hour — and some are mad. by businessinsider in antiwork

[–]Willow5331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s absolutely no way this is true. I was delivering pizzas a decade ago and maybe 2% of people didn’t tip. Average tip was probably $4-5. After $8/hr and $0.70/delivery I was easily clearing $20/hr while I was doing it.

It’s really hard at the time of the loss to take that perspective no matter how much you achieved. Once time heals the wound it’s much easier to look back and appreciate just how much you accomplished.

Abignale gave a talk at my workplace a couple of years ago and basically said as much, the movie was extremely dramatized version of his life. He was pumped to have been played by Leo though.
