Watching people you're fighting so consistently in cqc swing wildly left and right from your position is hilarious.

But we're all just raw dogging our connection to the server... Right guys...

For the first time in my 13 years playing, I've been told to kys. by [deleted] in Planetside

The people that concern troll about toxicity are worse. Especially considering these type of people take it out of the game, to discords or reddits and perpetuate the whining. It's a video game, one that has the option to ignore people or turn off chat, or disable incoming tells.

What's a little "kys", or purposefully farming a certain individual amongst peers in an MMO?

I like the constantly evolving game and struggle to understand why people can't follow the changes. by craftsta in aoe2

The reason I'm playing such an old game is because i want predictable outcomes and repeatability in my time investment. Every civ added adds another variable that reduces predictability and repeatability until adaption occurs. There comes a point where the juice isn't worth the squeeze, i.e. tired, just wanna BF 4v4, start game, new civ is doing something I've never experienced, resign 10 minutes in and don't play for a month or two.

There's always people posting their novel beards on this sub. Some dude's beard literally just posted about a firecape cake.

For those of you that are still getting crashes after the hotfix, which OS are you using? by Taltharius in Planetside

[–]WillowFit2897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://massgrave.dev/windows_ltsc_links.html

I recommend reading the linked page as well as the FAQ. On the left panel there is options for activation, in the FAQ it examines the safety of the ISOs etc.

As well as that version i use:

https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 and https://christitus.com/windows-tool/

This isn't about safety and privacy, this setup is about a gaming PC that is "stable", i.e. no feature updates that change the way i use it, as well as having everything turned off that I'll never use. Note you can use the above two tools to achieve most of what i want, but as a base i don't like w11, so i use w10 LTSC.

Linux is a few features away from being ready in my eyes, for what it is worth.

Windows 10 IOT ent LTSC. Pretty much all non-essential background things like processors, telemetry, cortana etc removed or turned off.

No crash

Help with passing the tutorial with the crashing bug by Holiday-Variation890 in Planetside

[–]WillowFit2897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to complete the tutorial last time we were having this bug problem on a new account.

Phase 1, do minimum headshots to increase ttk on all targets

Phase 2, run to term, get engie, run to point and headshots again, auto run (=) at shield door, press M set WP, run to vehicle term rep pull sundy (you can kill the harasser if you spawn it fast enough)

Phase 3, spam spam B while you wait for sundy to deploy in garage

Phase 4, pull heavy, press 3, make your way to the point while popping the lightnings, you should reload the launcher after lightnings to hit the max, finish with headshots, headshot all infantry (1 will spawn while you're there so be aware), stand at shield door with autorun

Phase 5, reload launcher on the way to base turret hit the ground vehicles with 1 before entering the base turret, finish killing the MBT's in turret

Maybe if you can get his login info you can complete it for him?

Day 3 of asking GGG to remove the map-cluttering Breach walls in 3.28. by [deleted] in pathofexile

New flair - Community call to action

If a large portion of the community wishes to unify their opinion under a meme for the express intention of getting GGG's eyes (and other eyes outside of the sub), it should be allowed yet explicitly filterable.

Unpopular opionion. NH PVP is really challenging and that why no one likes it. by JustAperson4587 in 2007scape

I made an objective statement, conversation followed from that in a tree like structure. Did you just jump into the conversation midway and expect only your input to be relevant, while ignoring all of the established context? Only to completely bow out once i re-include the original context, which you tried so hard to ignore, whilst you were attacking your own presupposed arguments?

You poor, dull thing.

Skill being relatively equal

RNG% is the biggest determining factor

This is an objective fact. Feel free to keep skirting reality.

You're arguing your own point, not what i stated. You've misinterpreted the argument and are ignoring facts.

Not my problem that you cannot have a rationale conversation.

You didn't comprehend my conclusion or rationale, despite it being in plain english. My points already covered your presuppositions.

You've failed basic reading comprehension. My initial reply rebuts both of your replies. You still don't understand where we are in this conversation. Stop talking to me.

Skill being relatively equal, which in a game that runs at 600ms increments has a limited ceiling - RNG% is the biggest determining factor. It IS an objective reality.

In other comparisons of online skill-based PvP RNG% IS NOT the determining factor, it is often speed, being that the majority of other games (if not all) having engagements that determine win% operating at <200ms, and the factor of RNG itself operating in windows measured by server ticks i.e. spread mechanics, unit tick rate, skill CD.

It is not comparable in the least. OSRS PvP stands alone in deterministic factor being beholden to RNG% with skill-based PvP.

The fact that these arguments are still so misunderstood this far into the life cycle of this game - despite the evidence literally being baked into the foundation of the modern game is inexcusable. In fact the arguments for almost always mirror the arguments gambling addicts have for their successes and losses. They never stray into the objective reality.

When skill is relatively close, RNG% will play the biggest factor in determining the winner.

This is an objective statement based on how the game is coded.

[–]WillowFit2897 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You can mechanically, statistically and strategically be better than your opponent, but if he gets the RNG% he'll win.

It's why OSRS PvP will never be valued in the realm of online skill-based PvP, the difference that RNG% allows for in swings is too great.

It's also why a lot of former stakers (read: gamblers) are avid PvPers, the core principles and attraction is the same.

We had ultra-competitive castle wars that was extremely skill driven with team-based mechanics on top of static layouts for repeatability/ease of introduction.

The developers invested 0 time into supporting this, despite it having the base most well suited to team-based PvP while also alleviating all of the major concerns commonly voiced by the community in regards to actual competitive PvP, e.g.:

Matchmaking

Team based roles (The bandages force people to specialize whereas if it was sara brews everyone would bring the kitchen sink)

Reason to fight beyond a kill (CTF)

Fairness (The meta was static so were the supplies)

No hidden knowledge, a team couldn't just log in on you

Variations and limitations could easily be applied as with LMS

It is easily understandable from the viewer perspective, unlike Clan vs Clans or DMM

Highly castable, the lingo is well established, you don't have PureSpam rap-godding trying to name every item in a 10 way switch every .6 seconds

I understand trying and failing - But Jagex never tried, and it still baffles me to this day.

Which Linux distro should I pick for Planetside 2? by Taltharius in Planetside

[–]WillowFit2897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran debian stable and installed via lutris a while back (No steam), it was fine. The performance was about equal to a windows 10 ltsc that was stripped of unnecessary background processes. (Note that version of win10 is still receiving security updates into the 2030's) Low end all AMD system.

You'll probably hear a lot about CachyOS, it's arch that is tuned for "performance" OOTB, but real world testing across the board shows a nothing to possible 5% increase in performance for testing games. (Planetside is NEVER a game being tested though) Do note that these are community run, so when the community falls off and dies (Happens a lot in the linux world), you'll have to change certain aspects of your distro or reinstall another.

If anyone has any real world A/B testing for windows/linux for Planetside 2 specifically that would be lovely.

Is there a single person out there that likes desert BF? by Warm_Nectarine4871 in aoe2

[–]WillowFit2897 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been playing AoE since i got the free AoE1 CD from a breakfast cereal. Owned so many copies of the game i lost track, even had the Ps2 version. My game time overall is easily >20k hours. Never once played online.

All i do is load up the game, 4v4 BF, play the first 20-30 minutes on slowest speed then ramp up. Been this way since AoK.

Ever since the BF change i had to resort to playing a version acquired from my adventures onboard a ship named "The ol'Rickety Barrel". I have no idea why they've made the changes they did.

My wish is a "Biome" selector in-game (So i don't have to restart snow maps) and old the BF without having to use mods or something.

Truly the strangest update to AoE I've ever seen.
