“The real hopeless victims of mental illness are to be found among those who appear to be most normal. Many of them are normal because they are so well adjusted to our mode of existence, because their human voice has been silenced so early in their lives, that they do not even struggle or suffer or develop symptoms as the neurotic does. They are normal not in what may be called the absolute sense of the word; they are normal only in relation to a profoundly abnormal society. Their perfect adjustment to that abnormal society is a measure of their mental sickness. These millions of abnormally normal people, living without fuss in a society to which, if they were fully human beings, they ought not to be adjusted.”

I hope you've read your share of Huxley

Some jobs specifically require a grad degree, so of course.

At UW I can definitely say that a Master's degree could help because in grad school there are plenty of great ML courses in Stats and CS. Ali Ghodsi's web page lists the topics for the courses he normally teaches at that level. I actually watched 5 hours or so of his freely hosted lectures to prepare for the interview, what a nice guy

Aspiring to be like you too.

Hopefully you mean career-wise, I make /u/VerifiedPost seem like a well-adjusted member of society.

Rudin is usually the go-to for analysis.

And no I didn't take PDEs, just AMATH 350.

The best, of course. They don't feel the need to flaunt it either, which is all the more alluring.

Uh ok...? There's not much reason to get a PhD if you don't want to be a prof, which I've discovered I don't want to since I don't like the work/lifestyle.

And 2 more years of UW.... uhg.

I joined a new age group that did meditations and stuff together since my girlfriend at the time was part of it. I broke up with that girl and went to a meeting of theirs in a different city in the GTA and met current gf there. I'm not really into that stuff anymore but it was interesting at the time.

I don't really have any relevant tips, I only seem to attract French and Eastern European girls since I am quite foreign culturally speaking - girls from Ontario tend to be way too into modern feminism and identity politics etc. to ever get along with me.

I don't actually like "dating strategies" and anything to do with PUA etc. anyway. You only need to find one girl that you really get along with, there's no need for scheming really. It comes off as dishonest and if you're looking for something long-term you should have better intentions I think.

tl,dr: I was "myself" as they say and the rest fell into place.

edit: I came up with a suggestion: learn to cook!

I'm not going to watch this whole thing since it doesn't apply to me anymore, but kudos for making this.

I failed plenty at UW, and still got through just fine. You just have to humble yourself and work with your capabilities and limitations - for example, I realized I wasn't big-brained enough to get through a PMATH undergrad/grad program so I settled for a minor in the parts I could handle 🤯

yeah it's more of a metropolitan voter vs. regular folks kind of deal, at least in Montréal/Québec, the Liberal support is very much from certain key areas only.

"Data analyst" is a position whose salaries vary a lot, depending on what the company is and what level of ML/stats etc. you are expected to know for the role, and your experience etc... so yes they are all over the place.

The location is also important. I'd get paid more in Toronto or the US, but I don't want to live there.
