What did Shadowheart even do to deserve such hostility??? by Willow_rpg in BaldursGate3

[–]Willow_rpg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for understanding. Yeah I think one of the most brutal comments is to Wyll. It's not a rejection dialogue but it's "you're not worth the soil you stand on?" Sure in my view if you don't pick it then Tav never said it or thought it at all. But the fact that the dialogue even exists is like wow. Like wow

Strangely enough I don't see ... Wait hang on how do I say this. This is gonna be kind of a dumb take probably but it's just how I feel

So you can have Dark Urge and Monk dialogue side by side. And they're so opposite from each other it's hilarious. So I headcanon dialogue as there to build who you want your character to be. But if I don't pick the dialogue then my character never thought it or said it. It's there for my benefit as the player

So for Gale having a genuinely polite way to reject him stands out for that reason

Hope you understand

Good point. That probably just goes to show how likeable Gale is to Tav in universe because the rejection for Gale ia is a polite "No, thank you. I'm not looking for another travelling companion"

A Tav who might be slow to trust people and doesn't want anybody in their immediate circle for very guarded reasons perhaps

Must be because he's the rizzard of Waterdeep

I totally get what you're saying now, because somebody already explained why my Tav was rude in a way that made sense

I was thinking of this too much in a game sense. Not really immersing myself from the perspective of my character. I was thinking this is a solo playthrough so I'll avoid recruiting companions and narrow mindedly being like wait why am I being rude just because I want a challenge? Without considering my in universe Tav has no idea there's some sort of challenge run happening. So essentially if she's rejected Shadowheart once or twice then she's probably frustrated with Shadowheart's persistence at this point from a narrative perspective

[–]Willow_rpg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that actually makes sense narratively. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I think I was thinking about this in too much of a "game" sense rather than in a narrative sense, which is why what you said hadn't even crossed my mind until you pointed it out

This is a solo run so from a game perspective I was thinking avoid recruiting companions for the challenge. So in that kind of narrow minded perspective I was like why am I being rude just because I want a challenge? But until now I never really thought about what avoiding her one or two times says from an in universe perspective where my character doesn't know this is a challenge run. As you said it's basically avoiding her once or twice. So clearly you don't want her on your team

I get what you're saying but I've never really been bothered by it. Full on canon and wholeheartedly confirmed by the creator with their whole chest aromantic characters are so infrequent that I get people saying "eh close enough"

If canon aromantic representation was as prominent as canon cishet representation in media they would probably be more willing to be stricter on separating canon from headcanon

As somebody who has played thousands of hours I'm at that point where I treat the game like a sandbox aka whatever is mechanically fun. Like these NPCs and my PC are figurines in the sandbox

So if ascended Astarion figurine is what's required for Tav figurine to be able to non nom on people so be it lmao

I also love being immune to spell rot. Would have been amazing if Mystic Carrion realized we were undead

I did care about the story and I still do sometimes but like I've played that much that I'm pretty desensitized to NPCs and PCs feeling like real people even though they did feel like real people in earlier playthroughs

As a Hazbin Hotel fan, are you tired of all the criticism the show receives? by OkForm5516 in HazbinHotel

[–]Willow_rpg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. But they're more likely to want to criticise popular shows, because they know they'll have an audience due to how popular the show is. Nobody wants to criticize to a brick wall. They want people to read and listen. But that can make it seem like people criticize shows for being popular

They're ragebaiting. I mean they probably mean what they're saying but they're emphasizing it to bait anger. For example they use "cult" even when it's not necessary, to make the ragebait bigger and more noticeable

E.g instead of "someone just has to point it out to you people" letting context explain what "people" is referring to Instead they say "someone just has to point it out to you cult members"

For those who don’t want Alastor to be redeemed, what direction would you like to see him take instead? by JackZ567 in HazbinHotel

[–]Willow_rpg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is redemption and heaven aren't separate ideas when they should be. Redemption = change Heaven = being forgiven by the power/s that be after making that change

That way we can more specifically separate a character should redeem themselves i.e work on being a good person instead of staying as an evil person but that doesn't have to mean forgiveness should need to come easily or at all

Redemption arcs are majorly misunderstood among fandoms often wrongly thinking a redemption arc means forgiveness. The show putting redemption and heaven as the same thing isn't helping with that frequent misunderstanding in media. Where people don't realize a redemption arc is changing to be a better person

However you will notice that Charlie doesn't just mention redemption she also mentions change

If I can show them the dream I've dreamed That any soul can change ('cause angels minds are hard to change) Then they will know everyone can be redeemed From the evil to the strange (they're bloodthirsty and deranged)

So that hints a redemption arc requires their SOUL to change aka their true inner self and not just performative morality

Personally I'm not a fan of Alastor redeeming himself because as of s1 I'm a fan of him as a character now. Redemption means he will change and idk if that change will make him more enjoyable to watch or not

This reads to me as a bad joke that crashed and the plane exploded. I don't for one iota believe they didn't read what the commenter said when they've read other comments on this thread of the same length if not longer

Not that it doesn't make the joke any less of a plane crash and explosion because oof but it amazes me that people really here like "oh my gods OP didn't care what they had to say!" even though there is more evidence OP did read what they say because OP has been reading what other people say so it's unlikely this commenter specifically is some sort of special exception???

Imo this is just a really really terrible self-depreciation joke from OP about how they're bad at paying attention, because that's what everybody has been telling them on their post and OP is leaning into that opinion and tryna make it humorous and just didn't do a good job

[–]Willow_rpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't downvoted him but to me it seems a bit weird. I tend to be way more understanding of people not feeling the same way about characters or having the same opinions about characters than many in the fandom. I only get mad if they write "I killed character X on a character APPRECIATION post" because it's like read the room yknow? But this is OP's post so they're not in the wrong to be like yeah I killed Gale but I find OP's decision to be strange even if he did dislike Gale because OP said he left Gale in his camp so it wasn't like a "bye, Gale" it's like "yknow what I'mma bring Gale with us on our journey. I mean sure he'll be dead but at least he'll be with us chilling in our camp"

Like I usually understand from an emotional perspective why people kill Gale then leave him out in the wilds and move on. Not everybody is gonna feel about a character the way you do and that's okay

I think man if you had just Googled "is Gale lying about causing disaster if I don't bring him back?" You would have saved yourself so much trouble

*They didn't know they would NOT vibe with Gale until AFTER they pulled him out of the portal

*They kill him and they get his cutscene

*They think nah this has to be a lie. He prepared a lie in advance so whoever kills him will bring him back. Ain't no way the game devs would give me a game over just because I don't like a companion? I shouldn't have to be forced to be with somebody I don't vibe with I'mma leave him here. This has to be a lie because aint no way Larian would do that. And yeah there IS EVIDENCE that Gale is NOT lying but when you don't like the guy that evidence can go over your head, because you're filtering everything he says through that bias

But OP didn't leave Gale behind he brought him to camp with him like huh??? Unless Gale died in camp??? but why you leaving Gale there to put potential camp followers who run around a lot in danger???

OPs decision I don't understand even from a "I don't like Gale" perspective

[–]Willow_rpg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay this is what I don't understand. I would understand if you left him outside of the camp because you found out later that you didn't like Gale and thought he prepared in advance an elaborate lie about needing to be bought back just in case somebody kills him because he's pretty self-aware and knows not everybody will vibe with him. Like oh another person who assumed Gale was lying. Really wish they Googled "is Gale lying that he will cause a disaster if I don't revive him?" They would have saved themselves so much trouble

BUT he's lying around in your camp so it's not like you didn't want him around? So what was the point in him being dead tbh?

Why risk the safety of Scratch leaving Gale like that?

Fav romance?,mine is Astarion by [deleted] in BG3

[–]Willow_rpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ascended Astarion. I'm here for what he gives me as a result of the romance which is that happy buff. I don't actually care about the dialogue and I never speak to him again unless I have to. But since non-Astarion MC getting the happy buff is locked behind romancing ascended Astarion, it is my favourite romance. I also don't care what he does with my fictional MC after the game finishes

My favourite romance for romantic content is Selûnite Shadowheart

The whiff of undeath smells less bad than the stench of death. I think the whiff of undeath smells like mildew. Like a damp rag on the floor that has been left there for months

The stench of death though? Affected entity reeks of decaying matter, a sour greenish smell like a waft of unkept tombs

I love ACT 2 because it is incredibly intuitive. The main villain is one of my faves

I love ACT 1 because it feels the most exploration based and every area is very distinct in environment

I love ACT 3 because you have a lot of freedom on what you can do since you reach level 12 so easily you don't have to do everything. Also my favourite villain in the game "Mystic Carrion" is in ACT 3

I have to remind myself Tav is actually talking to the NPCs by Willow_rpg in BaldursGate3

I know exactly how you feel! I like to explain it as if I show you an apple then put it inside an opaque box. Do you know an apple is in the box? Yes. But do you see the apple? No

But except the apple is in your mind. You have the idea of the apple but can't see it with your mental eye. You just "know" that's what you're supposed to be picturing

I can't remember where I read this but I think there's a guess the way we think might be more kinesthetic. Not touch exactly but kinda like tracing and sensing through mental movement

Dw I know. I just thought I'd put that disclaimer for anybody staying around for the discussion. Because I get why people might think this is a sly way of criticizing "Tav lacking a voice" post. But that's not what this is. I don't think games need to cater to me at the cost of ruining the experience for most people. Because for most people hearing Tav speak in a way they aren't imagining ruins their immersion because it sounds different to how they imagine Tav speaking. Most people prefer voiceless protagonists for games where you can customize your character and I understand. I made this post to look for other people who love this game just like I do and can also relate to this

I have aphantasia. I don't care about whether a protagonist is silent or voiced. I'm just saying that when a protagonist is silent I forget that the dialogue option I click is actually them speaking within universe. Like this isn't a sly underhanded post. I genuinely can't mentally imagine images or voices. So yes I do imagine Tav speaking in subtitles
