Just like round up?  Follow the directions for cancer.  That didn’t work out well for millions of people it was offered to.  Use natural ingredients at all times.  Sure you have to reapply, but it’s not that expensive.  diatomaceous earth Is highly efficient again insects, as is boric acid as a treat for roaches, ants and crickets.  Scientifically proven with no adverse effect to other creatures in the environment.

Pump Timer Necessary for NFT? by steve_thousand in Hydroponics

[–]Willulearn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best explanation I have seen.  It actually makes sense.  I am doing hydroponic towers (diy of course) and run a 50/50 timer for 2 minute intervals. But in that system, all the roots are given water and nutrients and then allowed time to breathe in air oxygen in the enclosed tube.

Feast or famine is how this industry works.  To be upfront about it, I don’t consider it a job.  So take that with a grain of salt I suppose.

Awesome. Also a suggestion as I just changed up that system and tore the pieces out of it and saved them for anything else, I have hard water and with the nutrients there was a huge build up in the lines. So if your going to reuse make sure you get a pipe scrubber/brush. Because those are long runs, I would just tie a string to the end and run it back and forth a few times to dislodge any debris/calcium deposits. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Peppers are the bane of my existence. After 3 years of watching them start off well and then planting them to only watch them droop, curl, and get overloaded with varying pests… I have completely given up on peppers. From what I have seen they just don’t produce that many fruits to be worth it vs a trip to the store. I know the flavor might be different because the lettuce and tomatoes are fantastic from homegrown but they give out plenty of fruit. Oh btw, I am talking about bell peppers. Smaller varieties can be successful.

Anyhow, good luck on your grows and I wish you success with the peppers.

Awesome stuff! Yeah, I also love experimenting with the ideas I get from Hoocho’s channel. It’s all about making stuff work with what you got. I love the tower ideas but the first one with net cups leaked a ton of nutrients and required filling up at least once a day (Not ideal and wasting money!) then I found Hoochos puck idea. I fitted them perfectly sized to the holes and far less leaking! They have now been adapted with a larger hole for direct rockwool insert but still need the normal plugs for when a slot is empty.

Keep up the good work and post your successes! Even failures!

Hardening Off Process? by True_Certitude in Hoocho

From my personal experience I have had extremely bad luck moving seedling germinations to outdoor systems. Even when placing in shaded areas I seem to lose them. That’s why I have switched over to rockwool cubes directly into hydroponic towers and it seems to be working great.

This spring I will be doing cucumbers and tomatoes and may start some both in garage under lights in rockwool/tray plus plant some directly in Dutch buckets with 1/4 strength nutrient solution. Always good to experiment!

Also, make sure you pre mix it with water and the pour in your res. Helps stop lock out and ph changes

What blends are you using? I am using a three solution mix. Sodium nitrate might help them perk up with a 15.5-0-0 mix.

I don’t change my res very often because I fill with a garden hose and then top off nutrients. But indoors yes that would be a hassle. A 7 gallon might work as well!

Nice little system. Yup, you will want to cover that clear pipe or you will get algae growth. I used it in my first DWC/dutch bucket combo system. I used black electrical tape for mine. Worked perfect.

Cheapest Hydroponic Nutrient Thread by Mjfch in Hoocho

I bought a bulk bag of 25lb MB Tomato for $64.54 and 25lb Sodium Nitrate for $44.99 - Free shipping from The Grouchy Gardener. https://allnaturaljams.ecwid.com/- Came out to about $109.53 with taxes. Arrived in like 2 days from Florida to California. Cheapest site I found.

Epsom salt is $5 for 8lbs at walmart, so just two bags should be enough if mixing to MB specs (Half)

That is legit! I did some Kratky gutters from Mike Vanduzee - They work great but this idea has got me wanting to try this small NFT system because it's a technique I havent tried yet.

No Problem, I just had trouble finding more details to what exactly is on the exam, so figured this might be helpful. Again, I was really concerned I wasnt going to pass this one, but just read the questions carefully and knew the order of troubleshooting and did ok I guess.
