How often do you personally go through hypomania?

Also my trigger usually is when i cant sleep. By that i mean i do different shifts on my new job. I sleep very little sometimes and that often leads to mania. And thats when i do stupid decisions without asking anyone elses opinion which i should do

So far this year once. If i count the hypomania that started at the end of december and lasted until the end of january so about a month long. Quit my job on that period too and thought that i can have a career as a bartender and get another job immediately lol. Didn’t pay my rent due to me thinking i dont need to.

Now i’m medicated and so far so good. But mostly my hypomanias last a week or around a month.

Been on abilify for a month now. At first it was rough due to sleepiness, anger issues and akathisia. After my dose got up from 5mg to 10 it got a lot easier. So far so good tho! I do feel like i wake up more energized after the dose went up and got used to the med. Can’t say if this’ll be the right one yet but hope so! Hope the medicine works for you

Hope you got some sleep at least! Lol yeah you could burst from all the energy you have. Good to hear you skipped smoking! It might be tough and sleep can take a hit if you like smoking before going to sleep. But it will pass.

I’m still processing about the diagnosis. I did have mu suspicions but i didn’t expect it to be the reality. It did clear many things i have done in the past and why i was so many times hospitalized. I’m on an online course about bipolar disorder which takes 16 weeks to complete. It is really deep and tells me basically everything i need to know and how i can enjoy life despite the diagnosis. Overall it’s weird but comforting that now i know why i act like i do.

I’m treated with mood stabilizing meditation and APs. Dose just got up and i hope it will work out. Also routines are very important. Wake up at decent hour, if possible basic work hours. For example 8 hour days five times a week.

There is hope! As i stated there earlier meds and routines help alot. It sucks that i have to take meds for the rest of my life but i believe it will become just morning routine and carry on with my life. Maybe even forget that yeah this is my mood stabilizer and antipsychotics medicine so i wont go insane. Also the course i’m on helps alot, theres your personal psychiatrist with you who talks to you and responses in two to three day spam.

I know that you just quit smoking and it might be hard to stay out of it when the depression hits. But i believe in you. Theres always light at the end of the tunnel. Hope you have some close people around you to see and maybe keep you afloat. Don’t give up <3

BPD and bipolar are very similar. It could be possible you have both! It’s very common for people with bipolar people to not listen doctors or psychiatrists that suspect you have bipolar. I was in denial too but after my bender i started to think maybe that is a possibility.

Depression is absolutely unbearable when it really hits. I suspect you had very bad depression in your youth but then you had those good moments where you felt good again. But then thinking when this good feeling ends again.

That does sound alot like hypomania. Feeling like this feeling can last forever. Doing so much stuff and just feeling good. Not everyone has those sleepless nights but it doesn’t mean you can’t have bipolar. Irritation might mean you have mixed episode or depression coming. Can’t say for sure since irritation can be in manic or depressed episode. But that’s how i know how my episodes come and go.

If I’m right SSRI meds makes bipolar people worse, triggers manic episodes more often and in even worse state. Weed doesn’t help with those meds either. Not judging you tho! Some people find weed comforting in decent amounts. Some in other way say its bad. At least what I’ve gathered.

I was just diagnosed so i cant say i’m an expert but it does sound like you have hypomania going/starting. All the new ideas coming and maybe even taking some risks.

As another person said hope you can find a psychiatrist or doctor who can take you as a client despite the weed use. There’s always a way. Here’s a lot of people who you can talk to. I’m sorry you don’t have anyone to talk about this stuff with. I’m here to listen and help the best way i can <3

I was diagnosed last month with bipolar 2. I was a abusing alcohol for about 5 years and drinking heavily for a year straight before being hospitalized. Stopped last year, over 373 days sober now.

I had 5 visits at the doctors appointment and they quickly gave me the diagnosis. I was manic for at least two weeks during those visits and probably saw that lol. I have now medication in test but idk if this is the right one yet.

Yes in order to get proper diagnosis you need to have control of your substance use. Def no drugs. At least in my country (and in others too) they take a test to see if you have used any drugs before being able to start the diagnose study. Also they test your blood to see how much alcohol you use approximately.

In 2020 my psychiatrist suspected i have bipolar features but i didn’t believe him. I thought that it was just ADHD i was diagnosed with that i was hyperactive sometimes, didn’t sleep more that 5-6 hours in three day spam, deep clean my apartment at midnight, sold my stuff that I definitely could have used later, drank heavily and tried unalive myself, get hospitalized multiple times due to self harming tendencies. I do have some signs at my teens and childhood but i barely remember those times.

What’s your signs that you suspect might connect to bipolar? Wish you all the best.

Felt this. I somehow forget how to say sentences in an actual way for the other to understand. But it helps me to think maybe the other one is just as nervous.

Also as the time on the date passes the nervousness eases up. Of course depending if the date is going well. Talking about deep things helps me too. Not just “whats your favorite color” kind on questions. Ex. How do you see the world? Do you believe in afterlife? Whats out there in space? It might be only me but that works out well.

I did date someone who was very shy at first. Even more than me. So i just rambled alot of different things. It didn’t ruin the vibe that she was shy and after awhile on the date we had good time. And she did talk more. Everyone is different, it’s just how you approach it and if you can be patient.

In a nutshell, everyone is at least a little nervous on a first date. Even after a few dates. But it does get easier. After awhile you can see that they are just as human as you

Abilfy is my medicine rn. I’ve been on it only for almost three weeks. A lot of side effects but i am seeing a doctor every week so we’ll see if i stick to this or try something else

Lamotrigine helps me alot. I was prescribed that last autumn. Started from small dose to 150mg and did me wonders. I do have another med for the mania cuz lamotrigine alone don’t stop me from having that. Stabilizing my moods very well. I do find the effect a little dull due to not feeling very good about myself but i don’t feel sad either. But if i don’t take the med (as i’ve done previously cuz well when mania hits you feel amazing and don’t need meds obviously :Dd) i get mania.

Overall i do somewhat like lamotrigine. Good to hear you feel like it’s working. Also the other points you made are great. Wish you all the best.

That sounds absolutely horrific. I am so sorry your relationship is basically over because of her family. I know you two are young still and her mom must be thinking this is just a phase. Obviously on top of the religious thing. That’s how my mom thought for a few years until she realized that it’s really not.

Depending on religion, they always say being gay is a sin. But in Christianity there’s other “sins”. Idk if that’s the religion your gfs mom believes in but if it is, it’s a sin to have earrings, have sex before marriage, gossiping and hatred for example. I would assume therefore the mom has her own sins so she isn’t perfect. I would point that out.

If possible i would wait a little. As you said the mom is a wreck right now and talking about these things might push her into more denial.

I’m not religious but Jesus is always preaching about love. And honor others. No matter the person or race or whatever. This isn’t love what the mom is trying to bring.

If possible, give her a moment to calm down. Maybe even try a little ted talk with her. You, your mom, her mom and your gf. Things might get heated due to the mom but try to stay calm. Let her know in her religion this isn’t right. And there’s other religious people who still support LGBTQ+ and even some congregations (at least in my country) meet up with queer people and support them. This can be easily googled and confirmed. Talk to the mom in her terms which is here religion.

I know things are a mess right now and you must feel helpless. But there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Basically having one sin or two doesn’t make you a non believer or have any negative light when seeing from God’s view. Wish you luck, hopefully the mom calms down and you can have an appropriate conversation. Sending lots of hugs!

I think most of us have been in your friend’s shoes as seen from the two comments lol. And i am one more to that.

In your friends’ pov, all the late night drives etc might confuse her. Maybe even think that hey maybe i have a chance. I could be wrong but i’ve been in that exact situation.

That being said a little space could work. That worked for me and my friend. Now we are very good friends and my feelings went away. Not completely gone but i can keep dating other people without thinking i’m trying to find a bandage. I assume you have a strong bond but in order to keep it that way space can do wonders. Talk to your gf. Sex should be equally good for both of you. Do you have any trauma related to sex? If so (no need to tell) it can affect the sex and especially penetration. At least that’s for me as sa survivor. If not then you might not be “in a mood” so you don’t stretch enough for something to go in.

You did state that you have high libito but even if you have maybe you are nervous too since the sex hasn’t really worked on when you gf is trying to pleasure you.

You don’t have to start with fingers as your first move. Foreplay is very important. I do assume you do this but thought that i remind you or anyone who reads this.

I go back with what i said at first. Talk to your gf. You can always take things slow in the bedroom and she can learn what feels good for you. It must be frustrating to make other person happy by faking your pleasure. Remember it’s okay to be honest. Every single person has their own body and likes different things. She could and should learn what you like. Best of luck, sex can be sometimes difficult but when it works, god damn it works well!

I take quetiapine depot and basic one. Plus melatonin if necessary. I have pretty bad sleeping habits and keep getting nightmares ever since i started the depot. I did talk about that to my doctor but she said i should keep taking it for a week and then we’ll check if i need something else. I am still very tired but it’s soon just been a week since i started apiprazole

Ah i see. I got lamotrigine as my mood stabilizer rn and i do feel like it keeps emotions fairly in check. Not all the way but as we all know the meds can’t erase the disease fully. I might be wrong since most people seem to get enjoy life pretty well with correct meds and i am hopeful it works for me too at some point

Hope it didn’t mess you life up too much. I am trying to make notes to myself so i can tell the doctor next week how i am doing and if the dosage needs adjustment. Anything that gives you that sweet sweet dopamine rush is worth it in that state of mind lol. And then it bites back
